MrWolf
Interesting to hear that you don't use an airbrush. I don't have one either, although I have looked into it, largely because lots of folks say an airbrush is essential for railway modelling. You seem to manage okay without. 7
RMweb Gold Limpley Stoker Posted April 7, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 7, 2021 It seems you have to spend more time cleaning an airbrush than actually painting with it. 6 5 1

Myth. Like most tools, look after it properly, understand it's capabilities, recognise your abilities and all is wonderful. It's not a necessity, certainly, but lots of things can be done more quickly with one. I am biased, though. 2 5 1 1

That's a bit of a nuisance. What next, maestro? Will it be salvageable or will you have to start again? Is there room to put another layer on top? 1

MrWolf
It might then take on the texture of the cobbler's shop, which again reminds me of something from when I was very young. A building that is a good 500 years old that is rendered with pebbles about an inch in diameter and has been overpainted so many times as to take on a bizarre Christmas cake look. I will have to search for a photo. Long story short, Don't give up just yet! 4
RMweb Gold westerhamstation Posted April 7, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 7, 2021 Hi Kevin, some things just don't go right first time, as a look in my dustbin will testify, it's all coming together very nicely. All the best Adrian. 2

I did wonder when looking at it, whether a quick spray of 'dirt' (with an airbrush) might tone it down sufficiently that it would become pretty acceptable? It doesn't actually look too far out to me. Popular Post KNP
Fear not intrepid reader, I have battled on through adversity and with 4 separate washes of Vallejo White Grey, a hint (dusting) of Old Wood, weathering with Lifecolor Roof Dirt and some Vallejo Black Grey we have ended up with this.... I will now leave overnight as the render is rather damp! Edited March 28 by KNP 29 3
MrWolf
Does this mean that you will revisit the job in the morning like Elvis? As in Return to render? Hat, coat, Uh, thank you very much... 1 12

It does, but when would Little Muddle have been built? Exactly. I got into trouble yesterday for daring to mention that I preferred women with narrow waists as nature intended, so I will leave it there..... I used one extensively back in the 80s, working in an art studio. Then it was an essential tool for retouching and general colouring. When PS arrived, we all went over to that and the airbrush became rather obsolete. So coming back to the hobby I didn’t think I’d need one. But then there’s the painting of track and there’s the weathering of rolling stock. So we had second thoughts. 1 1

I had a friend with a decent-enough career as a graphic artist, but when digital became the mode, he failed to pick it up and lost out. But many were either too old or could not see that this was the future of graphics. For so long art studios were places of specialists. Retouchers, lettering artists, illustrators, visualisers, paste up artists and designers. Then along came the Apple mac. 1 2

DonB
The Airbrush Debate ...... I read in an (American) Model Railroader many, many years ago someone describing the overuse of an airbrush resulting in "Charlie -Horse of the pointing digit". I never discovered the derivation of "Charlie-Horse" but the meaning was crystal clear! I do have an airbrush but have never used it!
RMweb Gold Graham T Posted April 8, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 8, 2021 I think "Charlie Horse" is American for cramp.... 2 1
