Final look of chimneys still under review. The interesting thing, never done thatch before so we will be on a voyage of discovery together.... I'll have to jump in quick, 'cos I doubt there will be another opportunity to feel that I'm ahead of you. I too am in the throes of a first thatching experience. I am using hemp, which I bought when at Pendon Feb last year, (You know when the virus had only just been invented). So far I have learnt that you may need to have the pitch of the roof a little steeper. I realised as soon as I put my home made kit together, that I had drawn mine too shallow. But as I considered it as a prototype, I carried on. The result, a virtually flat roof, once the hemp was layered on. A little better once I started cutting. But I'm already thinking about bigger trees around it on the layout. Therefore my advice, on this one and only occasion, err on the steep side, and keep your thatch bundles slim, if not flat. (And in my case, expect to be making a mk2, soon). I may come back with evidence, once the camera has re-charged, and if I'm feeling brave. Best of luck TONY 1 6

If the finished product is half as good as the sketch then it's going to brilliant. 2

KNP
Had a rethink and decided the shop to RH side of the pub didn’t look right. So have now lower roof and made it an extension to the pub with an entrance porch in the corner. Sort of works better S Still work in progress, it’s how the ideas evolve.

As the thatched part of the pub is the original build I wonder if the upper floor windows could be spaced apart a little now the porch has been resisted: perhaps the left window could move a little to the left. Just wonderin’ ..........

Yours, Mike. As i understand it from a brief chat with a Thatcher working locally , most have a "signature style" of locking the ridge thatch in place resulting in a visible pattern . also some, if not all, add a miniature figure on the apex which is often an animal shape, made from the thatching material. some Thatchers give talks at WI and similar groups, worth watching for! 1 3
