RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted September 2, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 2, 2017 Would it help at all if you rotated the whole plan clockwise so the buildings were more parallel with the front edge? Or, rotate anticlockwise so the front line is not parallel-ish? This might tighten the view into the fiddle yard.
Indomitable026
Would it help at all if you rotated the whole plan clockwise so the buildings were more parallel with the front edge? Or, rotate anticlockwise so the front line is not parallel-ish? This might tighten the view into the fiddle yard. We're already tight on width, I don't think it would stand any further reduction. The sidings have already been pulled closer together resulting in the waste oil tanks having to be re-configured. Plus we would loose the classic front view of the wash road shed. Indomitable026
Here's a compromise I think I saw coming. having mocked up the bund walls for the main fuel tanks its become clear I can only fit two in - not three. This will also mean there's plenty of room at the back for the radius on the back-scene corner.
Indomitable026
I've now added a small lean-to building that's termed the battery room. Time go and watch some threshing

RMweb Premium 2ManySpams Posted September 2, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 2, 2017 What you really need is another board between this one and the fiddle yard. Indeed. I do recall a while back somebody campaigning vigorously for me to add an extra board to Pencarrow ;-p
RMweb Premium 2ManySpams Posted September 2, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 2, 2017 Like the mocking up. Found it very useful on Pencarrow and saves much bu99eration later on. I think it's also worth adding the front facing roofs to the mock ups. You don't get the full impact of the building without it. Will also give you an idea on how the back of the scene slicing diagonally through a roof will look.
Indomitable026
Well that was a seriously civilised afternoon. Walked to the next village for their annual fete. Old cars, steam engines, live music and beer... Here's a couple of pictures at the end of the day with the threshing engine put to bed, the sun was setting, I was just wandering around with a beer and the band was playing jazz and blues in the background. What more could you ask for?

Indomitable026
Back to the job in hand, I've added a 'representation' of some more of the tanks. The small tank on the left is for waste oil, the tall vertical tank is for HST oil and finally the larger horizontal one on the right is for loco lubricant oil. There was two lubricant tanks side by side but space constraints restrict me to one. Now then, somewhere on the right hand end of this I've got to fit a pump house and on the left hand side some sort of contraption that I think filtered used oil?
Indomitable026
One of the distinctive features of Inverness MPD were the two fueling shelters. I've also added the pump house at the back which has meant moving the row of tanks to the left a little.
Indomitable026
I've added the anti freeze tank and the TPS (?) pump house

Indomitable026
Does anybody know what this contraption is? (the thing on the right - not the class 47) TPS? Does it deal with 'spent' oil?

RMweb Premium Mark Forrest Posted September 3, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 3, 2017 Might the S in TPS be "sand"? No, ignore that, just realised there is also a TPS sump and a pump, so must be a liquid.
Indomitable026
No, ignore that, just realised there is also a TPS sump and a pump, so must be a liquid. I wondered about that because of the hopper shape of the thing, but no, and I'm sure I've read about it being for processing used oil - but I can't find that reference. Indomitable026
This is where we got to. I'm pretty pleased with it although I'm not sure the photos and cardboard do it justice, it has a nice feeling about it though.
