Have you been on one then ? In that case perhaps you can give us a full description of what you believe is wrong with these trains.

If its anything like the mock-up they had at Colchester I know what to expect.

I've had the pleasure/honour of being onboard a 755/4 both at Innotrans, Berlin, Bussnang (well actually a 745/0), Switzerland and Great Yarmouth, UK (the latter all too briefly as I saw someone I know and had a quick chat between 37s). I can confirm that these units are utter light years ahead in terms of both passenger environment/comfort and technology/build quality from the Bombardier 170s and Metro-Cammell 156s they are replacing. The FISA LEAP seat is a well shaped, meeting all of the latest regulations (UK Gov. set!!!!!) and is nothing like the Compin-Fainsa Sophia on other new stock. It is a huge improvement over the awkward and clunky Chapman SC3.X seat in the 170s or the total opposite structure on the SC1.X in the 156s.

The Stadler FLIRT UK is a high quality product and shall revolutionise rail travel for many across East Anglia.

Stadler are recognised across the railway industry as being the best, the company's philosophy is a can do rather than "what's the bombardier bottomline". They are proud of their products, and rightly so.

Best bit, god they sound good!!! East Anglia ain't getting quiet anytime soon! One thing which shall be noticeable to the passenger, is the impressive acceleration (and eventual speeding of timetable).

I recommend comment is saved until you have enjoyed a journey as a paying passenger, otherwise you look a little silly passing judgement on nout.

Just stumbled over the below video on YouTube. 755 movements around Thorpe start at about the 25 minute mark on both diesel and electric. Going slightly OT, it's a good view on just how varied and ranging the stock around Norwich is a the moment from the 37s on short set through various DMUs and EMUs, 90s on push-pull, all the way to the latest UK stock on test. I'm hoping I can find enough spare hours to go and watch before it all before the 37s leave.

Tivetshall

06 June 2019

66002 and 745003 on 5Q99, 03:43, Ripple Lane Exch Sdgs - Norwich C.PT. T.&R.S.M.D (08:23) - second inter-city set

Having got up at 06:30 I was undecided as to my location of choice and so went out late, I got to Tivetshall and was held by a 90 / DVT set, after it passed I went over to check the shadows and realised they were poor, but by then I was held again by a 90 / DVT set. At that point it was too late to move anyway so I was stuck with a shadowy shot :(

I did wonder where the MNR was putting all of these units, as "warm storage" implies under cover / in sheds rather than out in the open (at least to me).

Nice to see this happening, and hopefully the money will be used (spent/saved/invested) well for the line.

Apologies if this is a facebook link, plus I don't really know the process for getting new stock into use, but it looks as if the 755s now have the rubber stamp to start passenger services https://www.railadvent.co.uk/2019/06/orr-authorise-24-class-755-trains-to-enter-service.html?fbclid=IwAR2dW5aOGdQdOlooqUcKFQJjTbUYtY8f4ZgQlq-G2UVTB4uCmaxJI8RMM_8

If only there were that many trained drivers - 8 is the current number, and there's nowhere near 24 units here yet !

More uncomfortable plastic junk. They should do a modern 309 with the same level of comfort.

Why do you say plastic when it's made of primarily metal?

As someone else has also challenged you, can you say when/where you travelled on one to know they're uncomfortable?  Or say what it is about them that makes you feel uncomfortable?   Because calling new trains plastic, when they clearly aren't is quite simply lying.

Might have seemed funny to people over 50 a few years back but it's sort of tiring now.

Not much different to someone using the phrase "it's only toy trains" elsewhere on the forum.

No big deal and I often wonder why things of little significance need to be over-analysed and questioned? One person's opinion is another's annoyance. Move on.

As Pete says, lets not allow this thread to degenerate into a "my plastic is better than yours" - I know some people don't like them, some with very good reason. Personally I think they look good but I'm not looking forward to the day they are "it".

As a spotty teenager back in the early 80's i became mobile on my first motorbike. One of my exploration days took me to the Mid Norfolk Railway. I found a 31 at Dereham ticking over but no one to be seen. I wandered around various locations and generally had a good look round but i never saw a train moving on the line. Over the years i have daydreamed about restoring the signalling on the line. In the late 90's i got involved proper but restoring the signalling was still a bit of a daydream. In my minds eye i imagined that maybe by the time i retired we'd have a lineside cable and maybe even token working.

The first rumblings of the storage project were just over a year ago. I now have a cable throughout the whole railway. There is key token working between Thuxton and Wymondham. This evening i nipped out and collected this..

The years of daydreaming are over thanks to this project. The long term benefit to the railway is obvious. We have jumped years ahead. The years of collecting and storing stuff has paid off too. A few other RMWebbers have helped out from time to time and the equipment they helped recover is now going into use.

‘Warm storage ‘ doesn’t mean the train stays in a nice, warm, shed; rather that it can be re-activated at very short notice. In other storage types, stock may be drained of fluids etc, such that putting it into service can be a major job.

Any idea what services they will be introduced on to first?  Really look forward to seeing them on the Ipswich - Peterborough services.

Just guessing, but the smart money would be short-haul services off Norwich, to Low'stoft, Yarmuf and Sherin'ham. Closest to NCP basically, lest gremlins emerge and to sever the DRS contract.

However, I know nothing and each unit may have already accrued 1000km and been declared fit for purpose. Staff familiarisation will be the time taker?
