On a cold and bleak, socially distanced, 23rd January 2021 with the sleet just starting to fall, a Northern Trains class 158 departs from Brighouse heading west with a service from Leeds to Wigan Wallgate.

Here is a MetCamm DMU in the landscape during the late 1960s, but I am not sure exactly where the landscape is. It could be in Northumberland. It is in the short lived blue livery with FYE continued over the driver's doors. This appears to have succeeded the blue with SYP paint job applied to units during 1966/7.

I like the focus on the snow on the branches in the foreground. Photos in snow are sometimes tricky for light, with that blue-ish cast, I think from the reflection of the sky on the white snow. Worth a tinker in your favourite graphics program?

Best photo of that bunch (best on here for a while, IMO, not that there haven't been many very good other ones), but it almost needs to be in B&W; it's so close to monochrome anyway.

Could it be a Carlisle bound train on the Tyne Valley?

Looks like that centre car is still green to me....

I agree - I think that looks like the Tyne Valley.....and definitely a green centre car when you study it closely

Were you one of those causing all the traffic problems in Diggle last weekend? Anyway, you were a bit far from home, methinks.

Shortly after leaving Bradford Interchange on 21st September 2014, a Northern Rail class 158 does its best to accelerate up the 1 in 50 away from Mill Lane Junction and heads towards Halifax.

1945608371_NorthernRailClass158MillLaneJct21092014-DSCF0055.jpg.d968cabc0f9f2499b5f74e10d64118d5.jpg

Since that photo was taken the approach to Bradford Interchange has been re-modelled to improve operational flexibility and permit simultaneous arrivals and departures over the separate lines from Leeds (on the left by the 158) and Halifax.  Mill Lane Junction signal box still exists but was made redundant from 19th October 2018 when control passed to York ROC.

That's a lot of greenery for the middle of what many people think is a big northern industrial city!

The trees and bushes on the left are certainly inside Network Rail's boundary as are, I believe, the trees in the distance behind Mill Lane Junction 'box, including those visible by the old coal drops.

I haven't been over that way for awhile so I don't know if Network Rail has been managing the vegetation since that photo was taken.  They certainly have along some parts of other lines in the area.

Looking at it, is much of the greenery on the old railway facilities? The mass of old storage sidings, goods facilities, loops etc that were there before Exchange was closed and rebuilt into Interchange?

The goods depot, Bridge Street Goods Station, adjacent to Bradford Exchange Station would have been located behind me to the right in the photo.

If you're familiar with the area, the main structure of the goods depot would have occupied the site that is now a large office complex on Croft Street for Santander and the adjacent bus station on Bridge Street that forms part of the Interchange complex that includes the present day railway station.

There was a separate much smaller yard, including the coal drops, on land behind Mill Lane Junction 'box.

Bradford is one of those cities that lost so much railway infrastructure and industry since the 1950s.  Quite staggering when you look at the city today and compare to historical railway photographs and maps.
