My boss is currently walking around wearing a black "bah humbug" hat

We're all hoping he gets visited by three ghosts this year so we can finish early on Christmas Eve and have a Christmas bonus..........but there's more chance of Nelson getting his eye back

With a week to go to the virtual SWAG exhibition, and realising belatedly that I shall need to produce some pictures and video for the occasion, I've started to make Ladmanlow more exhibitable, with the addition of a couple of ends, and a proper fiddleyard / traverser type thingy.

So the first thing I did was to add some patternmaker's dowels to the ends of the layout:

ladmanlow851.jpg.a1837a490551e9e73e976c027524e352.jpg

And then some over-center latches:

ladmanlow852.jpg.041ceef54a7b52b0b37ad8ad65079f06.jpg

Then I made the blank end for the righthand side of the layout:

ladmanlow853.jpg.f2586d62022344f819455f8b2e2b3023.jpg

and test fitted it:

ladmanlow855.jpg.77d00bd653fa8b98b35c207a744be653.jpg

Then, for the lefthand end, I started to put together the framework for a fiddleyard / traverser.

I haven't quite decided what it will be, as it depends if I can get a traverser to work with just what I have here at home. If I can't, it will be a fiddleyard with the hand of god much in evidence.

More soon,

Thanks for looking,

Al.

Cheers Andy, hope you and Dee are OK.

I'm now working from home, but confusingly that's increased my workload enormously, so I've not been able to take time to do any modelling for ages.

But I thought I should make the effort for virtual SWAG.

Look after yourself mate,

Al.

So this  morning I carried on with the fiddleyard.

I decided that I hadn't got the bits available to make a traverser, so instead I completed the framework with a solid top, and did some preliminary painting.

Then, I decided to put a back on it, so I can hide electrical gubbins like extension leads, power supplies and so on behind it, yet still make them accessible without grovelling under the layout.

ladmanlow858.jpg.25319b996c8009b38f3145b3e0bb4372.jpg

I also painted the blank end for the other side:

ladmanlow860.jpg.d273fd53e3a8a3d606406134794ffef0.jpg

Then, I left it all to dry, and went to cook Sunday dinner.

This evening, with everything dried, I attached the two ends to the layout, first the blank end on the right:

ladmanlow863.jpg.e67019f0f23784500f7bda7be852f4e9.jpg

Then the new fiddleyard:

ladmanlow864.jpg.e6588ea89672d6f9f06af4fc240c183e.jpg

Here's the whole thing (nearly):

ladmanlow866.jpg.0eef1c17fa8e4377781c2c9edbf75a6a.jpg

Interesting how the backscene for Bakewell looks behind Ladmanlow!

I cut some C&L flexi to length, and positioned it on the fiddleyard:

ladmanlow868.jpg.c4c7128b2b490ca4c054fe4ffbfafa3c.jpg

and checked the alignment:

ladmanlow869.jpg.3e1cd142c5464ff9d9222a36f7ca4f65.jpg

Then it was time for some glueage:

ladmanlow871.jpg.9d654408c39f104e562083bc4f928f5e.jpg

And some groceries:

ladmanlow872.jpg.7af2c89d8727c4e9be2c2ebe03d7ecd5.jpg

And that's where we are at tonight.

I will add two more tracks in the fiddleyard tomorrow to hold stock, then I'll start wiring it up and testing.

Thanks for looking.

Al.

The unidentified grey lump is a roll of roofing lead - very useful for wagon weights etc.

Not something to add to Sunday lunch, though...

you have to parboil the lead first before roasting

This working from home lark at least means I can sneak the odd five minutes in the cellar whilst waiting for firewall rules to deploy, and other such joys.

So the groceries were removed this morning, leaving the main fiddleyard track all stuck down:

ladmanlow873.jpg.1f52a096fde0d9e61a8add858817a738.jpg

and nicely aligned. It looks out of gauge here, but isn't in fact, and a test wagon rolls smoothly across the join.

ladmanlow874.jpg.6b9b12b923d2b30c8a2dc95f46de7ac8.jpg

A bit more glueage followed:

ladmanlow876.jpg.736a0fcc495f13bf05244416472449f6.jpg

and that was then left until dinner time.

After lunch, the groceries were removed, to let it dry in peace:

ladmanlow877.jpg.cdc9b8b0d341cb7cd1847ca59256f29e.jpg

and at mid-afternoon the third piece of track was layed, so by tea-time I had this:

ladmanlow878.jpg.c44d2e4bc69ef62a4b715051fe9fe94b.jpg

You may notice above that I added a strategically placed lip on the end of the board, to save those excruciating tinkling and crunching sounds when your pride and joy runs off the end:

ladmanlow879.jpg.f62e0bd037b18daea4414b6a6a95ef87.jpg

It also provides a nice platform to rest the camera on:

ladmanlow880.jpg.8efd564bf0ff0874169ea920829f6a66.jpg

That's all for now, more later maybe.

Thanks for looking,

Al.

Can I take it that use of the cellar for modelling is because you are now using the kitchen table for the consumption of the various meals mentioned in your posts?

If so, what has prompted this conventional use of the kitchen table?  I can't imagine with social isolation the daughter is entertaining.

Hi Bogie, no, use of the cellar is necessary because Cawdor Quarry is still occupying the kitchen table. Sadly no such return to convention exists... :)
