Taken only a month before closure and replacement by Gloucester MAS. Water churn out on the veranda, there was no mains supply and churns were dropped off daily by one of the few remaining stoppers from Worcester... DMU of course. Can I ask - is it your picture?

Phil, It is indeed my picture. All but one of the pictures I have so far posted on this thread are my own, that one was duly credited to the original photographer. I think this one was scanned from a slide which is why it looks a bit 'soft'.
Poor Old Bruce
Two more Midland 'boxes today which were shown a bit more sympathy when the double glazing was installed. Both seen on 24 Aug 2008: Ashwell in Rutland and the adjacent 'box at Whissendine, just over the border in Leicestershire. Poor Old Bruce
Sudbury, North Staffordshire Railway, 14 Oct 2009. If I could make a note for the indexers, the Sudbury 'box shown in Grosvenor's photo on Page 28 is this one on the North Staffordshire Railway in Staffordshire, it is not the Sudbury in Suffolk in Great Eastern Land. Could be taken as a hint for posters to try and give a bit more information, if known, when posting. Carrog on the GWR Ruabon to Barmouth line, now the Llangollen Railway. Not sure whether it is original or new build. Further along the same line towards Barmouth is Llanuwchllyn, now home to the Bala Lake Railway, seen on 13 Aug 1991 This 'box labelled 'Pwhelli West Frame' at the Cambrian Railways terminus, had seen better days, seen on 9 Sept 1991 Edited February 27, 2021 by Poor Old Bruce To add that Pwhelli is Cambrian Railways

Carrog appears to be a like-for-like replacement built on the base of the original. The upper part came from Houghton Halt with the frame from Green Lane, Chester.

SM42
Looking a Grovenor's picture of Birmingham New St on page 28 again , it reminds me of another snippet of information about the building's recent past. In the background can be seen The Axis, formerly known as Stanier House. To the left of that building is The Mailbox, a shopping and dining centre converted in the late 90s from the former Post Office sorting office (which was incidentally connected to New St station by a tunnel) As part of The Mailbox development, the developers wanted to improve the street scene approach to their new super dooper shopping arcade and paid for New St Signalbox to be cleaned. The signalbox was the colour of the wall that can be seen in front of it. Much discussion occurred with English Heritage about this work and the methods to be employed, it being a listed building, and eventually the cleaning works were agreed. English Heritage were a little perplexed that a white building emerged from the shrouds as they had listed a brown one (Not sure if that included the tea stain underneath one of the office windows though) Andy 1
