Calidore
I do remember many people saying it was surely inevitable after the 4mm version was released, and for both the quality of the model and the practicality for small 7mm layouts I think this one will sell extremely well. The detailing on the smaller version is excellent and will really show to good effect in the larger scale. If they sell well, I really would hope the M7 could be next. Now that would be quite something. Edited March 6, 2021 by Calidore 1

MarcD
I might have to treat myself to at least 1 for "Scratchy Bottom". I've looked at trying to print one for the last few months I don't need to bother now. Marc
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted March 6, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 6, 2021 Oh dear happy memories of running a friends Vulcan B4 on his little dockside layout back in the 80’s may have to be recreated Superb choice.
Bartb
I thought with the MK1's coming out, a tender engine would have been a good choice for a new tooling. Oh well, more monery to spend on other items.
RMweb Premium Dava Posted March 6, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 6, 2021 Good news for dock & industrial shunting micro layouts. Apart from Southampton Docks, a number (11) were sold into industrial service, ‘Corrall Queen’ was at Dybles Wharf, Devonport, now preserved as Normandy at the Bluebell Railway, others at Pepper’s opencast mine in West Yorkshire, several ended their lives at a steelworks in the West Midlands. So quite a versatile loco. Dapol loco prices now above the £200 mark but still good value. Dava
brossard
Hmmmm. I'm planning a dockside layout based on the Scalescenes Canal Wharf kit (blown up to 7mm) so this B4 may have a home there, alongside the Terrier. John
hmrspaul
There has already a lot of discussion of the prototype, lots of useful info on their use in industry in SR B4 0-4-0tanks in Industrial use - UK Standard Gauge Industrial Modelling - RMweb I am surprised no industrial version appears to be being planned, but then there is plenty of time to sort that out. Bluebell Boy
I've finally scored a correct guess with the B4 - and a loco I can certainly find a home for. Excellent.
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted March 6, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 6, 2021 And if it sells like the 4mm one some nice future batches to come too.
GNR Dave
Good choice for Dapol. And they already know which liveries will sell from their OO gauge version. May get a Southern black one to go with my Terrier if they do that livery.

GreenGiraffe22
With the A1 and now this, building a small (if one can really go small in 0 Gauge) SR shunting plank is quite tempting...

How small do you want to go? 4ft 8inches including hidden track.... Of course if you push it, you can do O scale in a boxfile - British or American 2

Paul I have a copy of Peter Cooper's useful Kingfisher book (1988) on the B4s. Those sold by BR in 1949 carried their Southern black liveries with just the names painted on the tanks. They were dumped at Eastleigh between 1947-49. Some ran like this in industrial service, at least initially, others were repainted and gained owner's identities such as 'Dinan' got Taylor Woodrow livery, 103 got 'DOCP' at Backworth (open cast mine), 100 was repainted as 'Sussex' for Stewarts & Lloyds, Bilston, but by 1956 they were all ready for scrap there. So plain or early crest BR (to remove) black is a good starting point for the industrial locos. Dava
Yankee
Let's hope that the CAD drawings for 7S-018-004 BR Early Crest 30084 are wrong or the description is incorrect. Drawings are showing it with an Adams boiler and cab. Their OO model of 30084 is correct, except it has two tool boxes, so probably just an adim. error at this early stage. Yankee
I think they must have their CAD's mixed up as the video is also showing 7S-018-002 CAEN Brown 90 as an open cab.

Just got an email from Hattons, who say 7S-018-003 is SR lined black. Given the duties for a B4, black would make more sense, but just to be on the safe side, I'll wait for livery samples before pre-ordering.
