eastwestdivide
SPAs - I think I've seen some in Aldwarke from a passing train this year, and I'm pretty sure there were a couple in Tinsley Yard (or what's left of it) when I cycled past at the weekend. Whether either of those were in main line use or internal/dumped I couldn't say. Haven't been to see the Aldwarke-Stocksbridge at all recently, which used to convey a right mix of wagons. Railfreight1998
SPAs in use on a short term concrete block flow in the cardiff area around 2017. This is the newest image I can find of them on the Stocksbridge flow (2019). (Flickr link) 3 1

Sad thing is hardly any of it has been saved There has been a regular flow of rod coil in VGAs/ VKAs from CELSA in Cardiff to Burton-on-Trent very recently. There may be VGAs/ VKAs on MoD work.

VGA/VKAs are still on MoD trains, usually used for support equipment/straps on vehicle trains I believe.
warringtonbankquay
Thanks to everyone for the updates. It looks like the four-wheelers are still hanging on. Probably best to revisit this thread at least annually from now on rather than wait another 10 years! Can anybody pin down which were the last four-wheel revenue wagons to be constructed from new in the UK (excluding Departmental conversions and transfers)? I would hazard a guess at PCAs from the early eighties. Chris
RMweb Premium Steven B Posted December 7, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 7, 2020 The last of BR's airbraked Speed link wagons were built in the early years of the 1980s. The PFA container flats (as per the Accurascale model) were built by Standard Wagon from 1986 until '88. The similar Procar built ones date to around 1986/7. Powell Duffryn and Standard wagon were both building POA scrap wagons in 1989. I can't think of any more recent 4wh new builds but there were plenty of engineers conversions from ex-revenue stock. There were 4-axle twin ferry vans built in mainland Europe in 1989. 1
warringtonbankquay
By way of a bit if a New Year review, I thought I would resurrect this thread to reflect the current position with remaining 4-wheel wagons on the network. I am guessing that the imminent Wascosa/GBRf modular bogie box wagons will see off the remaining infrastructure fleet of Coalfish and other fishkinds. Similarly, some 4-wheel PCAs could be for the chop following recent delivery of new JPAs but maybe some cement works can't take larger wagons. So what of the following is still in revenue service from last year's list: TTA - all out of use? TUA - all out of use? PAA - Sand traffic PCA - Cement traffic from Peak Forest (RMC) Earles, Oxwellmains (Blue Circle) Ketton, Clitheroe (Castle) - Alumina from North Blyth PFA - DRS Low Level Waste PGA - Aggregates PHA - Aggregates (self discharge train wagons) - Scrapped? PNA - Plasmor blockfreight CDA - China clay on local trips to Fowey IVA/IZA - Single/Twin cargowaggon IFA - Transfesa intermodal flats IFA - STVA 4 unit vehicle flats IPA - Assorted STVA car carriers, single and bilevel in variously 1, 2 and 4 unit sets MEA - any still in use? OAA - Concrete blocks from the Mendips - is this still running? OCA - MOD traffic REA - Runner wagons for steel traffic SSA - Scrap traffic SEA/SPA - Wire coil traffic VGA/VKA - Any in use for MOD traffic? Any additions or corrections would greatly assist with bringing the list up to date. Chris
eastwestdivide
I think the Kings Lynn to S Yorks sand all went over to bogie wagons from Nacco. See https://www.railjournal.com/freight/gb-railfreight-to-lease-new-greenbrier-wagons/ I saw these in Doncaster fairly recently. not sure if there are any other flows for PAAs. Cement PCAs definitely still in use from Hope to Dewsbury in December 2021, (including wagon no. 11111!) RMweb Gold Stretch37266 Posted January 1, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 1, 2022 VGA/VKA still used on the Tidal - Burton-upon-Trent train twice a week. SSA on,I think, Tidal - Masborough train

Nope, hasn't run for quite a few years. Would be different wagons if it still did anyway as they were EWS/ DB owned wagons so wouldn't have transferred to Freightliner operation. Railfreight1998
The Belmont yard - Angerstein spoil trains that used SSAs seem to have now gone over to megabox wagons, as has the Tidal - Masborough flow. Don't think there is any traffic still using the MEA boxes anymore. The TTA/TUA tanks have now all been withdrawn too I believe.

warringtonbankquay
Thanks to all for the sightings and updates. On WNXX today (31/1) there is a report of a Rotherham Masborough to Cardiff Tidal scrap box train. The photo shows about two dozen MEAs in tow behind 66 063.
