trisonic
I think everyone likes to see street running trains or just locomotives - it's highly unusual to see standard gauge locomotives doing the same in the UK, nowadays: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=175758&nseq=14 The New York and Greenwood Lake Railway is "yet" another New Jersey Shortline. As the Crow flies I estimate this is within 10 miles of Manhattan across the Hudson River. Best, Pete.
trisonic
Yee Haw! Another shot of the GP9 down Monroe Street from 3 days ago.... http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=394966&nseq=0 Cowboy hats in Sopranos Land. Best, Pete.
RMweb Gold PhilH Posted April 13, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 13, 2012 Brilliant - I just love the fact that he is wearing hi vis along with his stetson. UK H&S take note....
trisonic
I believe that's a fag hanging out of his mouth too. Good luck to him! Best, Pete.
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted April 13, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 13, 2012 I believe that's a fag hanging out of his mouth too. Good luck to him! Best, Pete. Looks more like a flag than a fag
RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted April 13, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 13, 2012 I thought fag had a different meaning on that side of the pond! GP9 looks remarkably original, with only ditch lights (is that what they are?) to show it as upgraded.
Tim Hale
Google BDT for some stunning dockside system under the Brooklyn and Manhatten bridges (the tracks are still in place) also John Pryke's Urban Industrial Kalmbach book based on his Boston street layout series from MR - all very useful. trisonic
Yes, Mike an interesting Flag/Fag juxtaposition! Tim, We've covered the Brooklyn scene before (and great it is too) this time around I'm looking for trains with residential areas - for the heck of it....Thanks for joining in! Here's and interesting one just after the recent Master's tournament in Augusta: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=360486&nseq=279 Best, Pete.
Glorious NSE
That's nice - and contrary to the guy in the comments I think the kids help the composition.
shortliner
Yes- a nice scene - I think the kids help to establish the era with their clothing - what is the significance of the blue horse - if any?
trisonic
No idea - is it just a coincidence with the NS line? I like the "No Parking" sign - it surely must apply to where the cars are parked, it is not a local municipal one - certainly not like our local ones. Best, Pete. trisonic
Perhaps we should "liberate" the horse, then...... Best, Pete.
trisonic
Here's a filthy, rustbucket SOO Line GP38-2 going down Wall Street (No the other one, silly, in downtown Winona, Minn.) http://www.railpictu...=385792&nseq=77 Sorry, Jordan! F-UnitMad
Here's a filthy, rustbucket SOO Line GP38-2 going down Wall Street (No the other one, silly, in downtown Winona, Minn.) http://www.railpictu...=385792&nseq=77 Sorry, Jordan! What for..?? I know of this route ; there are pics around showing the caboose that usually leads the train, too, as it's quite a long shove apparently, from the main to the various industries at the end of the route. As for the Geep, well right away the number 4512 tells me it's an Ex-Milwaukee loco, and that's without seeing the original Milwaukee colors showing through the cheap black Bandit paint.... and naturally, being Ex-MILW, the term "Rustbucket" applies by default.... CVSNE
Neat pictures, but industrial truckage isn't really "street running" now, is it? How about Ashland, Va., (between Washington, DC and the capital of the Old Dominion) Here's a link to a neat shot: http://www.railpictu...d=383750&nseq=0 OR if you're street running tastes are a little more vintage in nature . . . and RF&P set: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=371899&skip=1 Edited April 13, 2012 by CVSNE

highpeak
Maine Central's Rockland turn would occasionally venture down Commercial Street in Bath to switch Prawer's, a wholesale food distributor. On a pleasant April day in 1976 GP7 #572, looking a bit weatherbeaten, and relatively new U18B #401 switch out a boxcar. Into the 50s further up the street beyond the locomotives there was a coal pocket where coastal colliers would unload coal from West Virginia, a lot of which went down the branch to the cement works at Thomaston.

signalmaintainer
Try the "Renton Rocket" on for size. Taken last June in Renton, Washington, by someone who calls himself "Railroad1970." This is on my beat, and the silverish cabinet to the left of the Main St. signage is the case for the crossing equipment: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtdMAjHtqRU&feature=relmfu The Rocket runs five and sometimes six days a week to the Boeing 737 plant in Renton. The location shown here is the former Milwaukee Road mainline (now a BNSF branch) that runs east-west through the middle of Houser Way in Renton. Fifty years ago this scene would have featured catenary for the MILW's electric locos. The garbage containers are for the Rabanco waste collection site located near Renton Junction, about three miles west (leftward) where the branch diverges eastward from Main 3. The train will switch the Boeing plant, run around its cars, head west to switch Rabanco, and be back in Seattle by mid- to late afternoon. Also west (leftward) of this photo was the now-defunct Black River Junction, where the BN (nee Northern Pacific), the Pacific Coast RR, the MILW, and the Union Pacific manuevered around each other on their ways to and from Seattle and Tacoma, and in the MILW's case, east over Cascade Mountains via Renton. Too difficult to explain here all that took place at Black River! Edited April 18, 2012 by signalmaintainer

298
I was uploading these just before RMweb had a wobble, so hopefully it'll work this time. Here are a few of mine from locations from the Street Running DVD, although sadly not featuring my favourite, the UP GP's in Modesto.
