Hi all

Diesel -Class 37 every line is perfect the bonnet nose and round cab especially in Large logo blu

Prototype DELTIC is a close second.

Electric-class 87 just something about the angular lines and wide cab windows.

DMU-class 101 even the humble unit can be beautiful.

Steam-Mallard sleek and beautiful in blue.

I'm feeling i need to get back in on the action

Steam: I'm going to have to put the NSWGR Z27 class in here, because in it's gloss black paint job it looks absolutely stunning (and better than the Cadburys purple it was in):

Diesel: It has to be 4001 in Royal Train blue and gold:

Electric: The Cityrail V-sets have always appealed to me, particularly in the current stainless steel with blue front, very appealing (on the left):

I'm probably breaking the rules here, but in my defense I will say that they have all the engineering principles (at least to my mind) of conventional steam locomotives. Which could open the debate, if something acts like a locomotive is it one?

Anyway I quite like Roundhouse's Jack.

His baby sister Katie is very pretty child as well.

Finally Cheddar's Goliath was very handsome whilst it was around.

Smartest Industrial loco must be 0-6-0 "Minnie" it was the contractors loco when the WR&MUR was constructed and then was purchased by the Skinningrove Iron Company and worked until the 1960s before going into preservation.

Three other pretty locomotives over here in New South Wales, Australia are the C32 Class, the C36 Class (Pig) and the D55 Class. Both the C32 and C36 were photographed at Sydney Central during the Great Train Expo last year. The D55 was photographed at Thirlmere (Rail Transport Museum).

P-6 / C32 Class, 3265 in maroon livery at Central Station. Circa 1892.

C36 Class, 3642 in original livery. This loco class are commonly known as 'Pigs'. Circa 1925.

K-1353 / D55 Class, 5595 in original black livery seen housed undercover at the NSW Rail Transport Museum, Thirlmere, NSW. Very unconventional Southern valve gearing on this class. Circa 1918. A D59 Class can be seen in the background.

Until I stood next to one as its geared wheels rolled by me, I would not have said that a Shay is the most beautiful locomotive in the world.

They`ve one of these down in Dunsmir Ca. Which we stood gazing at for about an hour when my son was over last year. I got a pic some where.

There doesn't seem to be a loco in which nobody can find some beauty. I might well have stopped and stared at this one, in the same way that I might have to make an effort to tear my gaze away from a horror film or the aftermath of a major road accident. We are a strange species - and no, I don't exclude myself from that, so no offence meant to yourself or your laddie, Sasquatch!

Oh no, not my idea of a thing of beauty. We just wondered how they ever moved at all! I know they're quite popular with the guys over here though.

Beauty lies within the eye of the beholder after all!!
