Hi Andy,

I honestly was not saying that when (1) the windows frosted (2) the porch was wrong! I have calmed down now.  :jester:

Hi Mike

Frosted windows, OK for winter pre-central heating days. And in the summer not frosted but steamy,. It is wash day pre-washing machine days and Mrs SM has the boiler in full swing.

Morning Mike,

A fascinating building method, I'm looking forward to the next episode. I imagine, from the reputation they gained in S. West Scotland, that the driver of the Clayton was wondering when he'd get back home? The 8F looks just right in that lovely shot. Thanks for taking the time to share them with us again,

Kind regards,

Jock.

If I had thought of that it would have saved a heck of a lot of reworking! :jester:

I really liked the Claytons when I was a simple spotter but soon changed my views when working on the engines, a very cramped and awkward set-up especially setting valve clearances amid the oil soaked engine compartments.

The SM house is the last building to make and I am looking forward to setting it in its place and completing the scene around it.

Both trains pass each other close to the barrow/pedestrian crossing. This remains the only method of reaching the 'Up' platform..........WHAT! In this H&SE world tut-tut!

Presumably that's why there's a 30mph speed limit through the station (if Train Simulator's version is at all accurate anyway). Judging by some film I've seen that's a (relatively) recent addition, and some other stations with barrow crossings (e.g. Horton) don't have the limit AFAIK, but aren't on anywhere near as much of a curve.

Hi Reorte,

I'm sure when I took photos in November 2013 there was a 60mph sign (that was on the Down line) however I'm sure in steam days the S&C was classed as a 75mph route with obvious restrictions as required, I have certainly passed through Dent over 60mph with Peak haulage on several occasions, (that was in the days of counting telegraph poles 8 to a quarter mile if memory serves) I have also sat on a really bleak night with the train going nowhere - it seemed, luckily the steam heating was in fine fettle!

Hi Mike, I bet that SM House will drive you mad now trying to get it finished. The last bit always seems to take the longest.

Hi Andy,

Last bit, you must be joking, I need to make this project last so will be finding all sorts of tweaks over the forthcoming 50 years or so! It will take me that long if I keep doing things twice eh! Loving the Pencarne build BTW.

Edit to add:

Ian Nuttall has sent me a copy of November 2013 Railway Modeller which features his fine portrayal of 'Dentdale', following that is an article on Andover and then a guy called Andy Peters shows how to make hand-painted backscenes, so there is another job I'll be doing twice.  :jester:

If that's the PAINTED one, the following Month I did one using an Air Brush. Here they both are.

Hi guys,

Finally got to grips with the new laptop!

Last night we had an era hop into the 'Blue' period...

post-5296-0-77335700-1448738467_thumb.jpg

Depicting a scene on the Settle-Carlisle line from the past with Class 40 40122 refurbished into BR Green hauling 4 Blue and Grey Mk1's. My mate Andy brought this around and can remember being hauled by it on the S&C.

Proper 'old order' stabled in the siding.

D200 'as was' looked a beast of a loco back in those days and I have fond memories of them running into both Glasgow Central and Queen Street stations.

Mike,

Only Diseasels this week mate?

Kind regards,

Jock.

Hi Jock,

I was giving my friends stuff a run while he was here, normal service will be resumed soon but the SM house is taking precedence over 'playing'!

Hi Mike

Despite the protest from Clacton those of us from the better part of Essex quite enjoy seeing 2000s, Bo-Bos and the Type 3 charging through Dent. But wot is that green plastic thingy???

Hi Clive,

Quite agree, I felt queezy myself!

If it has to be diseasels, at least you chose Sulzers and Whistlers (Type 3's.... meh )

You surprise me Jason, I don't know many people who dislike EE 3's I personally love the noise they make, real ones anyway.

It's not dislike, I don't mind them really but I don't understand the following they have when the are other diesel classes that are better looking, more powerful, etc. The above is an example; Class 37 and Class 40 - for me, the 40 wins hands down but when was the last time you saw some fanboy say 'you can never have too many Class 40's LOL' or some such shite :)

Hi Jason,

It could be that the 40's were all gone much earlier than the 37's which gave the latter a stronger following, I had no preference until I returned to photographing real trains and it was then I found a soft spot for that throaty exhaust, stream still wins hands down however!
