Nearholmer
It might be me, but I've never thought of TPO trains as "parcel trains" in the sense being discussed here, which I thought meant trains of vans carrying "railway parcels" and/or Royal Mail, be that parcels or bagged letters/packages, not being sorted en-route. Mind you, I think newspaper trains got in on the act at some point in the thread too. 4

RMweb Premium Steven B Posted July 2, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 2, 2021 There's not much modelling in evidence either, but it's still a fascinating thread! Steven B
RMweb Gold The Johnster Posted July 2, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 2, 2021 No, but plenty of good modelling info about train formations in the photos.

Nearholmer
Always found the Cambrian ‘van on the back of a DMMU’ made the before dawn train from Shrewsbury a fascinating ride, with post vans backed onto the platforms, and posties ready to receive their bags for local distribution. It wasn’t unique to this line, but it was the first place, and later the last place, I saw it.
Popular Post jonny777
I recently purchased a batch of John Vaughan b/w negatives at auction. The auction house stated that copyright was included, therefore I think I am within my rights to post this here. This is a GWML parcels train late 80s-style, with 47592 in charge, passing Waltham St Lawrence on 3rd June 1988.

It signals the line to the left of the 25 - the down goods - so has been moved from its expected position for some sighting reason. I am going to assume the photographer is standing on a bridge and that bridge is the reason. Rob

Having been repainted it lost the name less than a year later I think. So many wonderful short prototype trains in this thread..........! 3

montyburns56
I'm posting these together as it seems that it was the norm for the Manchester Bristol parcel trains to have a passenger portion in the mid to late 80s.
