20106 propels a loaded scrap train at Bradley

One of each of the types of Sheerness Steel scrap wagons - next to the loco a newer build (early 80s?), purpose-built as a scrap carrier, and next to the brake van a conversion of a box body on one of the original Sheerness Steel bogie flat wagons.

A busy scene at the now closed Etruria station near Stoke. 2 loco hauled sets were out all day with umpteen pairs of 20s for us masses, heres 20159 and 20045 with the 1447 Crewe - Derby back on August 11th 1989.

happy days!

Oh I well remember this.Take a good look at the “ stock “ they are hauling. It is in fact a redundant dmu.The quality of the service was so bad that Staffordshire County Councillors made representation to BR.It was a symbol of the ultimate in a clapped out railway.New generation Sprinters followed  and AFIK they still work the line, though hand me down 170’s are promised.Current circumstances prevent verification of this.

So why Etruria?

was It the place to bail to get the connection back to crewe with another pair of 20s?

Aye they crossed at Stoke on a dead from memory and its a long way round that underpass. So Jed and the rest of the legions after bailing off 20159 n 20045 at Etruria joined 20188 and 20227 on the 1422 Derby - Crewe...Happy days
