Class 20 "chopper" new and old photos...

Recommended Posts

Nice model pic  :jester:  - Green 20 on blue/grey Mk2 stock with IC liveried Mk3 next to it, as well as a water tower, passing through an implausibly short tunnel with a sign that isn't vertical -  it deserves to be in this thread

And you've forgotten to fix the headcode discs that were supplied in the detail pack.

Cheers,

Mick

A pair of Cl.20s on a rake of Mk1s - it must be summer in the East Midlands. Here two of Toton's allocation round the curve at the site of Spondon Junction in the mid 1980s. Since nobody is hanging out of the carriage windows, this is probably the ECS off the Skegness to Leicester service, returning empty to Etches Park Depot.

Note the body of a maroon Mk1 SK in Albert Looms scrapyard behind the two locos. Was this the last Mk1 bodyshell to remain in its original maroon livery I wonder?

Some views in the vicinity of West Ruislip.  Hope the detail ones are helpful.  Sorry about joins and distortion in some wider views - old camera and combined images.

Additional picture in the early light of this morning, 9th August, showing a closer view of the tripcock

installation on 20 096.  Trip arm, seen at an angle to the leftward, is in the raised, latched-up position.

A few Class 20's from the 1980's

post-12740-0-47034100-1409000300.jpg

20048 + 47483 Stranraer Harbour 13/04/1985

The class 20 had arrived overnight with 1S06 2110 Euston - Stranraer, from Ayr and was returning to Ayr with Glasgow train.

Hard to imagine today but we passed this over and had class 40 40122 with a relief service to Carlisle instead :)

I think this is a great train for the modeller 20208 at Haymarket (Edinburgh) c.1985

Hi all.

Here's a challenge of sorts.

I managed to find the picture I mentioned earlier in the thread of a pair of unidentified 20's at Scampston Crossing on the Scarborough to York line on a summer Saturday in 1984 or 1985, (although it could be 1986 or 1987 too?).

I was on this train and it was the only time I got a pair of 20's in BR service.

Problem is, I can't for the life of me recall which ones they were. Zooming in on the picture suggests the front one is possibly 20047, but not 100%. Can anyone help identify them? The only other thing I recall is the train was bound for the Midlands.....

An interesting photo of D8088 at Oban.  In actual fact 20's were not uncommon on the West Highland line in times of poor railhead conditions for extra traction, i.e. not just in  the summer. They would be tucked inside a steam heat 37 and to facilitate the use of the steam heat boiler on the 37 a few Eastfield 20's had through steam pipes fitted. As I recall, D8088 was one of those. My eyes are not as good as they used to be, but is that a steam heat pipe on the buffer beam?

Edit....  0ops! The photo did not come through, not sure what I did not do. I refer to the photo in post 31 on page 2.

The only Raifreight  grey class 20 in BR days was 20088

They then moved on to the main line loop

And then moved to Toton

Sean.

The 20s are indeed 20047 with 20013 with 1N35 10.18 Scarborough to Newcastle in tow on Saturday 31st August 1985.
