I believe this is only the second journey on the network in the new colours.

All over grey? Wasn't that the original engineers' livery, before they added the horrid mustard coloured stripe? It was quite classy then.

Looks like a homage to the old Railfreight livery to me. 

 

Looks like it, but the big slab of unbroken grey looks very drab and really does need a large BR double arrow to break it up.

You buy 'em, you pay for 'em, you can have whatever colour you want on 'em...the UKRL Grids are spot hire traction, the end customers possibly wouldn't appreciate an homage to Isle of Wight dinosaur livery or anything else for that matter.

Varnished undercoat and yellow is fine, as long as it's running, in my book!
