Marcus 37
Hello Andy Happy New Year to you and Dee. Haven't been on this week as hoped due to playing with big trains. Playing being the operative word as have had a nice big, blue Class 47 to play with for doing some route learning. Hope you had a good Christmas. Looks if Santa was kind with that nice list of new loco's you've got coming. All the best mate Cheers Marcus

RMweb Gold Alister_G Posted January 8, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 8, 2016 Blimey Bodge! Can't wait to hear them, still not completely convinced by DCC Steam sounds, but I'm ready to be proven wrong Al.

Hi Al, I agree to a certain degree, but they will be for here or another Project where they'll just shunt around a Yard / Depot.

Jock67B
Sorry mate, I must have lost the plot, or I'm trying to follow too many threads but for some reason this thread disappeared from my 'followed' list - almost certainly pressed the wrong button when falling asleep so there might be a load of ratings over the weekend if I feel up to it! Unforgivable with me being such a loco shed fan as well? Looked in for the weathering pictures mentioned over on Pencarne, Kind regards, Jock. Andrew P
My Hornby Sound fitted Black 5 was Factory Weathered, but I never did like it that much, it seemed to Yellow and was just one colour. So today I toned it down to a Black sooty finish. I will be working on the Valve Gear later. Ooooo Look what might be coming. Andrew P
I've also fitted some Sound Chips today, one was the Bachmann 9F, this required fitting the Chip into the Loco but the Speaker in the Tender as there is no room in the Loco Body. I also decided to take the opportunity to fit a larger Bass Enhanced Speaker. Holes required drilling into the base. Then the Speaker housing tested for size. A 2mm hole was drilled into the front of the Tender for the wires to pass through. The Speaker wires were then attached to the ones from the Chip and inserted into the channel along the top of the Chassis. And the two Speaker wires were Super Glued to the side of the Chassis. I also sealed the slots in the side of the Speaker housing with tape to ensure the sound comes out from the speaker correctly. It was all then re assembled and tested. And this is how the connecting wires look once assembled. The Loco and Tender is now permanently coupled but hey ho, I have to live with that. Andrew P
Next up was the 8F, having done one before I knew what to expect, there's no room in the Loco for the Chip so the Chip and Speaker both have to go into the Tender. With all the parts di assembled here's what we have. With the Blanking Chip removed I then had to strip it down and remove the base plate from the system. The Chassis Pick Up wires were soldered together and the TV resistor removed and the extension wires that will connect the Motor to the Chip were soldered direct to the Motor. A 2mm hole was drilled in the floor of the Tender front to pass the wires through. The Speaker was attached to the under side of the Tender top with Double Sided Tape, unfortunately I forgot to photograph this, but it was the tested and all working well. I meant to say that the Pick Up wires from the Chip are soldered to the two Pick up Terminals in the floor of the Tender that can be see in photo 1, I forgot to photograph that as well. Andrew P
The other Locos ( Jubilee, Hornby Std 4, Bachmann 4F, Hornby Black 5) were a simple plug and play.

Andrew P
I doubt I'll get into the Shed again until Monday, and then the aim is to detail all the new Stock and then weather them all, especially the 9F, this is what I want to replicate on that one.

Hi Jock, and I missed your post yesterday as well, I hope your feeling a bit better mate, I will have some weathering pics up here in a few days, possibly Monday as I'm busy tomorrow. I re did the Black 5 whilst doing some other weathering today, but couldn't do the rest because the accessories were not fitted yet. The Hornby Std 4 which you can see in the Group HUG above was already done when I bought it, and its rather good. There are plans afoot for a Yard / Depot possibly S & D based with the Bulleid fleet added to the above. More details in a week or two.
Jock67B
Andy, They look like a superb collection and the shed is going to be well worth viewing when you get all the dirt and grime in place! Thanks for sharing so much with us mate, Kind regards, Jock.
RMweb Premium Bogie Posted January 10, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 10, 2016 Impressive stuff. Glad to see to you did not take up knitting as you threatened to do over on Pencarne. Having regard to your taste in curtains I suspect I would have been highly critical of any knitted cardigans you turned out. Stick to the trains - especially the steam ones.
Jock67B
Morning again Andy, Just working my way back through slowly, but I won't put too many ratings on, just for the railway related posts! One thing I noticed is the gap between loco and tender on that beautiful 9F - do you intend to close it up a bit, or are you restricted by tight curves? Perhaps cosmetic doors? You have lost none of your weathering skills mate, really superb! Kind regards, Jock. Edited January 10, 2016 by Jock67B
Jock67B
Hi Andy, Just been back to before Christmas and have to thank you for the Q1 weathering tutorial on P17, and the 'mug shots' on P18 are useful - it's nice to be able to put faces to the names you correspond with, especially Duncan who is a regular over on ERs! Kind regards, Jock.

Morning Jock, Yes for a Bachmann Model the gap is large, I will add some doors when I detail it, EDIT = The weathered one in the pic above isn't mine, there will be no tight curves as it will be like West Shed but on Steriods, hahhah and Medium and Large Radius curves. Glad you like the Q1. Edited January 10, 2016 by Andrew P

Thanks Polly, The Loco is one I had when I was building Bitton, and I sold it to Jeff, (Binny) and the pics were taken the other night from my phone on his Burton North Layout, its only 12ft x 1ft and inspired me to build West Shed, which is a copy of half of Jeff's Burton North. RMweb Gold Rowsley17D Posted January 10, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 10, 2016 Hi Andy, I hope at some point we're going to get one of your famous videos so that we can hear your latest acquisitions? I need a new chip in my Black 5 as it's the Hornby 3.5 one which virtually chuffs to a standstill despite altering CVs to what Bryan at Howes recommends.
