edcayton
This came to mind when looking at Andy's thread on defining eras. Does anyone have this info please? Ed
'CHARD
It's all here. The vast majority of 66s by a country mile are still wearing EWS. http://www.wnxx.com/fleetstatus/data6070.htm

RMweb Premium phil-b259 Posted September 16, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 16, 2015 Thanks guys. Another meanie here, but curious about others-60's, 08's? others? Cheers Ed It is important to realise that EWS did not embark on a mass repaint (as most TOCs do when the franchise changes) when they bought the ex BR trainload freight business because they quite quickly realised new traction was needed and bought 250 class 66s that saw off most of the rest of BR built traction. As a result while some of the class 60s and 92s got EWS livery - an awful lot didn't. We then saw the 60 fleet progressively withdrawn from traffic bar the odd one or two with most stored at Totton. When DBS decided to start overhauling a small number these machines got BDS livery , while further machines leased to Colas now carry their colours. Thus an EWS liveried 60 will now be seen either mouldering away in the sidings at Totton or out on a test run from overhaul before repainting. As for the 08 fleet - as with the 60s EWS never instigated a complete repaint of the class - the odd machines here and there got EWS and some have now got DBS. However as with the class 60s most are now stored in various states of disrepair as there has been a big tendency to dispense with dedicated shunting locos and use main line locos for such work where needed, partly because of utilisation purposes and because NR don't like shunters out on the main line as they are too slow so moving them round is a pain in the arse, normally involving road transport. RMweb Premium TimC Posted September 16, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 16, 2015 Preserved and/or stored, yes? Yes, but still in EWS livery.
'CHARD
Hardly likely to trouble the main line though. If we were to count up all the demics across Europe we could end up thinking the most common loco livery is BR Blue or some other flavour.
Peter Kazmierczak
Does EWS (but with DBS stickers) still count as EWS livery?

RMweb Premium TimC Posted September 17, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 17, 2015 Isn't the 31 a fake? Ed 31466 was painted into EWS colours for the 1998 Toton Open Weekend. It was stored at the time but was reinstated and if you search for '31466 1999' on Flickr, you'll find a number of photos of it in service. 31255 was also painted into EWS colours at Toton as a trial for the new paint shop. However, it never got numbers or the EWS letters in the gold band though it did get the 3 beast logo. It then went pack to the stored engine line. It only received numbers and EWS lettering once it was preserved. Nowadays it has a grey roof so it has a hybrid livery. The loco is now owned by Harry Needle so it may one day see use again. I'm not sure if any other preserved loco has been painted into EWS livery. There are a few good photoshops around though - have a search for 'EWS Class 40' on Flickr.
