From a glorious autumnal afternoon (10 November 2019) the signal box at Barlby by Selby. Hoping OK to post an image without a train in it.

Looks rather isolated and lonely now that most buildings of the BOCM Works have been demolished.

Good evening, everyone. This evening we go to South Howden, on the former H&BR, thanks to John Law on Flickr. We see 2423 shunting the yard. It is stated to be from c1935. No other information is available.

H&BRly G1 tank engines, a batch of twelve, Nos1 to 12. No4 was a one off and almost certainly in Scotland during the Great War recived an extended bunker. No4 was later sold  into industrial use.

My first thought was "looks like an LCDR T class", looking it up they were both designed by W Kirtley. Nice looking loco.

Love the details in this photo, and the wagon porn on offer. I'll also show this to the next person who tells me that goods yards weren't allowed to be overgrown!

Good evening, everyone, and with thanks again to John Turner and Peter Brumby, on Flickr, we go to Paragon station in about July, 1960, and see a class D49/1, Shire, 62717, Banffshire without it’s shedplate. On the left is a Cravens class 105 unit, and on the platform to the right a couple of young spotters. I wonder what has happened to them after all these years?

c.07/1960 - Hull Paragon.

Now a second photo’ with same credits, is of the same engine on the same date, but perhaps on a different train, and to the left is a vintage carriage which could be former NER in origin, and in departmental use.

Best regards,

Sorry bit late but where is Scotland did No 4 get too during WWI? I was aware of different H&BR locomotive at Dalmore and involved with the mine laying barrage.

Fair to say some interesting foreign locomotives made it to Highland Railway during WW1

Thanks for prompt reply. Interestingly the Friends of the Far North Line website entry on WW1 Dalmore Branch doesn't mention. Same uncropped image is on the website

It does mention G3 No 146, a small 0-4-0 saddle tank and a selection of LBSCR Terriers (specifically 37, 79, 81 and 83)

Further digging and IRS book on Scotland doesn't help much either, mentions Dalmore & Invergordon suggests 6 locomotives on site but only details 3

The Adam LSWR radial tank & NER 0-4-4 tanks are well known and photographed

Good evening, everyone. Thank you, Mick, for the photo’s, and the information about the G3 when on loan in Scotland. I knew some NER locomotives were on loan, in Scotland, in WWl, but wasn’t aware of any H&BR locomotives. I’ve learnt something new this evening.

Well, this evening, with thanks again to John Turner and Peter Brumby, on Flickr, we go to Elvington, on the Derwent Valley Light Railway. We see York’s BR built, at Swindon, in 1960, 0-6-0DM, D2158, on hire to the DVLR, on the 15th April, 1964. Well that’s the date in the caption.

15/04/1964 - Elvington (DVLR), East Yorkshire.

Best regards,

 Rob.

L07 went to York with vans to attach to the Ncl- Red Bank and some forwarded to KGX. L07 could run as a 7L07 when conveying air braked vehicles York works as well.

Notwithstanding the stories about the line being overgrown so that it could not be seen from the air, and my own observations from the 1970s, the track at Elvington looks remarkably tidy - I wonder whether the DVLR ever operated a weedkilling train.
