Modelmaster - making contact

They will catch up as they do keep tabs on orders. Some paints I'd ordered were one item short which was listed as following. It did arrive separately a number of weeks later. They're trying their best so hang in there.

Now I know I am happy, I like their transfers so use them.

I was worried!

Just a question regarding Modelmaster I placed an order on the 26/5/2016 for a set nameplates and I'm still waiting for the order to be fulfilled I have emailed them and also phoned them about 3 weeks ago and I was told that I should have my nameplates within a few days due him being busy and I'm still awaiting my order has anybody else been waiting for there orders from Modelmaster.

Further update to my (Still outstanding order) I sent an email again stating that my nameplates still haven't arrived.

As I was at work when the proprietor phoned me back he left a voicemail stating they had been sent out after we had last spoke so they must have been lost in the postal system.

He stated he would send out another set and would be with me by the end of this week which to me was yesterday.

And guess what still no nameplates I have quoted my address and details in every correspondence with him so I'm now getting a little annoyed and the amount of time its taking to send a pair of etched nameplates for info they are 4mm scale 50035 Ark Royal with red background if anybody on RMweb has been sent some by mistake from modelmaster.

Ayr Model Railway Group's annual exhibition is being held in the
Citadel Centre in Ayr tomorrow Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th.
This is, in my opinion, one of the more up and coming and vibrant
exhibitions in Scotland, and benefits from a good cross section of
retailers from all over Britain (including Modelmaster of course!)
and some excellent layouts and displays - the Perth Model Railway
Group's layout features some of the best farm fields you will ever
see on a layout anywhere, from ploughed to fallow to briccoli being
harvested - the detail is outstanding, and this standard of modelling
is repeated on other layouts showing just how alive Railway Modelling
still is today.

It's worth the 45 minute journey from Glasgow and Paisley (and just
over an hour and a half from Edinburgh) to visit this exhibition.
What's more if you do come, and tell me that you received this email,
I'll give a 20% discount off your decals and nameplates.
Only £5/£3 entrance, open from 10.00 until 17.00 on Saturday and
10.00 until 16.00 on Sunday, come and enjoy the West Coast sea air in
Ayr, and after you've visited the exhibition, in the town there are
some of the best fish suppers (and ice cream) to be found in
Scotland!

As the originator of this thread, I would like to remind everyone that my order at the time WAS fulfilled, I DID manage to make contact and am very happy with the service then and on a number of occasions since. I wouldn't want to create the wrong impression.

I placed an order last week and it arrived in France very quickly indeed. Sadly I had screwed up part of the order, but if the chap is unwell he will not be rushing to sort out my mess! I hope he gets well soon - and not just for my benefit!

Looks like the plug is being pulled, email announcing retirement received this evening:

After 52 years in the Model Railway Business, I'm going to retire sometime this year,  and spend time travelling and relaxing with my wife Elspeth, who works long, hard, unpaid hours for Modelmaster. There would BE no business without her!

I'm not printing any more decals or transfers, so when items sell out, they're gone forever, but I'll still complete very limited production of 7mm Scale Waterslide Decals already in the pipeline.
So, let's get the stock moving, with 25% off
4mm Nameplates & Decals
for a day or two!

Seems sudden and unexpected considering the new website was finally relaunched not too long ago.

Also, considering that he only recently announced they are doing the P.O. wagon transfers for Parkside kits in an exclusive deal that only kicked in at the beginning of this year.

I was going to ask about an ad I saw : new type of waterslide transfers that can be applied to a matt surface. However, given this latest information it now seems irrelevant. Are they not going to try to sell the business ?

I think he tried to sell the business a couple of years ago, and had no takers

I think these "Mom and Pop Businesses" as the US would define them, are often bloomin' hard work at the best of times. And the MJE product doesn't bring in a great deal of money per transaction, so many orders are needed to make it worthwhile. I believe they enjoy an impeccable reputation among customers, but that doesn't reduce the workload.

I'm afraid I won't miss them, I made a £10 'donation' to their retirement fund in August and am still waiting for a response from them as to when I can expect my nameplates. I have sent three emails but am unable to phone them as I live overseas.

Apparently they prefer people to phone them. While patiently waiting for my order, I was sent weekly emails advertising their products until I redirected their mails to the spam folder.

If they have been ill, I am sorry to hear that but that is something that could have been communicated on their website.

I think that you will find that a lot of modellers who have tried to order 2mm / n gauge items in the past few months will disagree.

I'm intrigued - why can't you phone from overseas?

In theory I can phone from overseas but it will be expensive and I don't want to throw good money after bad. I suppose I hoped they would reply to my emails, now as a last resort I will get a friend in the UK to try and find out what is going on.
