RMweb Premium Phil Mc Posted April 7, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted April 7, 2020 After doing the other plough using the same method, they've both had a coat of matt varnish to seal the weathering. Cheers, Phil.
RMweb Premium Phil Mc Posted April 8, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted April 8, 2020 Jack fitted the passengers, and I've finished the weathering. A dark grey wash around the door-shuts, and the same method I used on the parcels vans for the roof, plus the usual airbrushing for everything else. Cheers, Phil. 12
RMweb Premium Phil Mc Posted April 10, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted April 10, 2020 In the same box as the ploughs & the 108 were this bunch of various engineers wagons. So they're taking their turn to cross the workbench. The 'Mermaids' will be loaded, the rest will be empty. A thin wash was made up from the various shades of paint shown, and liberally brushed, in downward strokes, all over the outside of each wagon. Just before this, the cocktail sticks were used to add rusty 'spots' to the bodysides, so the wash caused them to run. Hopefully this pic shows what I mean ! A slightly darker version of the 'wash' was slopped onto the insides of the wagons next, but before going over the floor, some weathering powders were dropped in randomly. Which was then stippled over with the 'wash', resulting in this mess ! All the 'empty' wagons had a bit of ballast sprinkled onto the wet floor. After being left overnight to dry, this is the result. For a much more eloquent version of instructions, I suggest looking at James Makin's thread (never spoken to him, but I do admire his work !) Cheers, Phil. 9

RMweb Premium Phil Mc Posted April 11, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted April 11, 2020 All the wagons had the chassis' airbrush weathered yesterday. Pics later. I've been doing a bit of plastic recycling this morning ! Cut up an empty food container (Mushroom's I think ) to make a base for the load in the Mermaids, it's only to lighten the load, and definitely doesn't need to look pretty !! Then sprinkled in the ballast. And glued it in place with PVA/water mix with a dash of washing up liquid, exactly the same as ballasting trackwork. (so I've been told, but I don't do scenery !!) They're now in the airing cupboard while the glue dries. Cheers, Phil. 6

RMweb Premium Phil Mc Posted April 14, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted April 14, 2020 This has been waiting its turn on the bench since Rails were selling them off at 60 quid a pop ! My plan was to do 47311 (which I think is the only 47/3 I had for haulage!) in RfD livery, so I stripped it down & removed the aerial from the cab roof to get it ready for paint. THEN realised 311 met its end with its bufferbeam in original condition. A case of looking at the small details but ignoring the big ones !! After going through a couple of options, I've decided on 47303, in 3TG but with no bodyside stickers. Had to reinstate the aerial though....... When it was ready for Yellow paint, I figured I might as well paint the ends of the next project at the same time, so that was prepared too..... It's going to be 37417 from it's days in Cornwall. Did think about doing 37419 in its current guise, but I've more DRS tractors than I could possibly need already !! Cheers, Phil.

Funny you should say that, there’s one under my bench that if I’d got a particular shade of red, I’d be painting it ! I have got the other 3 colours required, so I might end up making a start on it....... Cheers, Phil.,

sb67
Fantastic work Phil, sorry if I've missed it but what paints do you use for the rail blue and warning panel yellow?
RMweb Premium Phil Mc Posted April 16, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted April 16, 2020 I’ll happily use Phoenix Precision or Railmatch enamels. The batch of 31’s used Phoenix P148 Yellow, P152 Blue & P182 Grey. The 47 has the 2 lighter shades of Grey by Railmatch, but the roof will use Phoenix, just because that’s what I have in stock! I have used acrylic paint, but just prefer enamel. cheers, Phil.

Yeah, there not shy with it ! This is the worst I've seen though, it's coated the gear towers inside & out, inside the whole bogie, soaked out onto the bogie sideframes...... It's been cleaned up, and done over an hour each way on my rolling road. Running sweet now. Cheers, Phil. 2
