I have a DRS depot layout ( Oil Drum Lane) which I am currently obtaining stock for.

DRS has now been operating for 20 years so a lot of locomotives have come and gone.

What I am trying to establish is a list of DRS locomotives used in this 20 year period

The sort of information I need is

Locomotives purchased dates , liveries , Locomotives sold or scrapped dates.

This information will hopefully enable me to run the layouts into different time periods over a exhibition weekend

The Early Years 1994 - 2005 and latter years 2005 to 2015

Any help in pointing in the right direction in finding this information would be much appreciated.

Terry

Platform 5 (or equivalent) Loco pocket books for the periods suggested would go a long way to identify the fleet over the years. They also listed what livery the loco was carrying. Ebay often has these books for sale.

Regards, Chris

Chris

Thanks for that I will check out the Platform 5 book as you suggest

dont forget the "early days of DRS" era could include DRS branded GBRf class 66s and (iirc) DRS branded EPS grey 37/6's

i also drove riviera, and retro XP64 and BR green livery 47s with them back in 2006, they used them for a short while on intermodals to daventry

And if doing a depot, you could model the nearly but not quites:

20165, 205 (907)

37111, 197, 410, 411, 416, 714, 718, 902, 904

47791

A few others used in service along the way

37029, 683,

90034

92xxx

20205 never belonged to DRS. Since being sold by Pete Waterman in the early 1990s, its been property of the Class 20 Locomotive Society. It was painted at Butterley in a shade of blue very similar to DRS blue.

37111/197/718 and 47791 never quite made it onto DRS property before being scrapped.

In the nearly and not quites you can add:

20007/016/032/057/066/072/081/088/092/094/105/108/113/121/132/133/135/138/145/159/175/206/209/215, 33002/008/019/053/057, 37012/023/043/051/262/340/345 All of which have been owned by DRS at some point since 1995....

also, dont forget your depot can have visiting locos for servicing, fastline livery 66s for example, used to take them to gresty bridge for exams

i've also been onto kingmoor with various colas 56s for fuel and sundries

Yes good point I was aware of this having seen Colas stock at Kingmoor

Passing through Carlisle yesterday there was a long line of locomotives including at least one class 20.

There was also a class 68 that looked absolutely brand new.

Although the 20 is not in service, going by other posts, at least one does still exist so a 20 along side a 68 is certainly possible.

Thanks to all you for your input.

I think with the information I now have to hand , I should be able to equip the depot with stock from the early years as in the book 1995 to 2005 and a present date giving me a excuse to buy class 68 when they are available and run the depot 2015/2016 era with all the later liveries.

Hopefully without the fear of someone saying you would have never seen those two locomotives in that livery on the depot at the same time.

Dare I get. Bus.........

  • 2 weeks later...

How things change, I regarded the 20s as pretty synonymous with DRS.

Only taken out of use this month after the RHTT season which is fairly normal. Most of the 57/0s also in store for same reason. Whether the 20s return though is always a fun annual rumour / doom mongering time :-)

New MD at DRS now with rumour of a big reduction in fleet size due to the incoming 68 fleet and the need to cover their rather high lease charges (and that's not to mention the class 88s due later in 2016)

Out of the stored 20s, there are only 3 usable, they all need heavy overhauls and there use on RHTT next year on the limited Yorkshire runs can be covered by the three other class 20 operators. All the 47s are now stored with vinyls already being removed so they are ready for re- sale / new operators
