Night Train
David. For your heroic effort in reporting this, I really hope they let you cut the ribbon to officially open the foot bridge. I cant think of anyone more deserving of the honour.
jukebox
Thanks for the update David. The outfall chamber at the Eastern end of the beach, near the compound is an existing Southern Water inspection chamber. An outfall pipe runs to the marker post 200m out to sea. Historically, SW had access to the manholes on top of the chamber from the beach. However, due to the reduction of beach level and new rock armour around the chamber, Costain have cut through the sea wall to provide access from NR property with new safety handrail. Unlike the other plastic handrail along the old sea wall. the beach footsteps handrail will be stainless steel. Is there any chance you might be able to reveal/find out why the steps have a dog-leg in them 2/3 way down, instead of running in a straight line down to the water? Thanks!

lmsforever
Think the new footbridge is a big improvement on the old one and the steps especialy look very smart ,just hope that the local scroats don't get at it with their spray cans.

ffinybryn
Is there any chance you might be able to reveal/find out why the steps have a dog-leg in them 2/3 way down, instead of running in a straight line down to the water? Thanks!I can't honestly say why, but they were designed that way and were not an afterthought. I had always assumed it to be some safety mechanism to prevent people/kids running down them too fast etc. But am open to other ideas. BTW David. You do realise those columns are upside-down?! runs as required
BTW David. You do realise those columns are upside-down?! Nah! It is the bridge prototype that uses the "upside down" variety of column - a rip off of the upside down Minoan variety on Crete (as shewn below) dt has used it "right side up" as per proper Euston Arch Greek jobs dh Edited March 4, 2017 by runs as required
