Without the Orange Suits, Crane Jibs, Diggers, Dump Trucks and Spoil Piles the place looks grey and desolate    ..............    and not improved by the "Illegals" loafing around at the foot of the new rock barrier  .....   :nono:

Had an email from AndyH, a few day's.

Evening Dave

Further to the washout post...

That bit of fence post has been dangling like that (held up by a single piece of fencing wire) for years. It's where the locals used to tip their old washing machines, tv's, bikes etc off the cliff. There was a nice little scrap yard down at the bottom.
You can just make the fence post out in this 1989 pic...

Back in 1990 I thought it would be a good idea to lean out over the cliff there to take some pics safe in the knowledge that what was left of the fence would save me if I fell!
Still... got some nice pics

There's a new secure fence erected along the top now to spoil the fun.

Cheers

Out of interest I've posted a link on the " Grim Landslip on the S & C " thread. It links to a video on facebook showing the piling operation at Eden Brows by Story rail. It wouldn't have made a lot of sense without having seen David's marvellous pictures on here documenting the process of creating a buried viaduct.

The piling rigs looked to be very similar.  The problem was the access and the situation, standing on 500,000 tons of gently sliding river bank.   The video is a piece of advertorial but is well worth watching.
