In the last photo, the Dover Curling Team is seen practicing for the national championships..

I notice in another shot that there's another lot of plant over where the old train-ferry dock was- in the words of Uncle Bryn 'What's occuring?'

They've got a lovely finish on that top; better than my kitchen floor.

I agree, at first, I thought they maybe polishing the ice surface,

but soon realised they are putting the drones that were flying around here to good use,

All very interesting.

Has anyone else pondered the underslab culvert?

Will it have p.c. slabs roofing it across as permanent shuttering forming the soffit of the second platform slab across the piles?

And what about the discharge onto the beach - simply left open (with some sort of grill to stop kids wandering in), or fitted with a non-reverse flow gate?

Either seem problematic - cavelike blow holes developing at the foot of the chalk cliff if left open, non return valve/flaps never seem very reliable.

I have presumed that it will be extended forwards through the existing wall and extended backwards to meet the culvert or whatever coming down the cliff - but that is no more than a presumption of what strikes me as logical.

Here you can see the outfall, from the impressionist , "Spit the Dog"

I was pondering the top of the raft.   Any sign of cross or longfall?

I would have thought having water pond under the ballast would not be desireable...

Could be both from the look of the rain run-off in this image

Might there be some top dressing to fall and/or waterproof membrane over the slab to protect the reinforcement from saline corrosion?

2

From the artists impression it looks like a simple grill over the culvert opening in the new sea wall, yet some more complex sump and flap arrangement in the first image of the piled viaduct slabs.

We must wait and see.

They will certainly have to provide something otherwise the ballast will simply work its way through the concrete as it gets crushed by passing trains.  But however they do it some sort of drainage to clear water off the viaduct will surely be essential?
