Dont tell me its a Q6...?!

There's also a sort of Q6 coming up in the Airfix range (maybe with an elongated Collett boiler?). Scale? Don't know I'm afraid but Phil said it's a big box.

ooh, build your own steam locomotive engine.... so that's the engine that powers a steam locomotive?

Aah but if it's a steam locomotive driven by an electric engine.

Whilst we're on words I wonder how many buyers will be looking for Product Tit (from the OP) on the shelves? I reckon Phil staged that shot.

Whilst we're on the Junior train maybe the branding's still to be sorted 'cos as far as I'm concerned you're either a virgin or you're not and just trying to look like one often spells trouble. ;)

Looks like someone dipped the front end in boiling water.....

What the hell is an "electronic" motor?  And a "moving coupling rod"?

Lights and sound must mean there's a "Real Firebox Glow" (an orange LED) and a piece of sandpaper on one of the axles.

Any idea as to the scale?   If its anything like the "Internal Combustion Engine" ( http://www.airfix.com/uk-en/combustion-engine.html), it'll be pretty boring once its finished.

The box beneath it in the picture is labelled "Automotive Engineer".

It could still be fun for an 8 year old interested in how things work.

Isn't that the correct original full term? The engine (Cylinders, pistons and final drive) is self-propelled = locomotive (adj) and powered by steam. Without the word 'railway' it could also refer to a road locomotive. The word 'engine' was dropped early on.

Re "sort of Q6 kit".  That's how all Hornby locos will come.  It's then up to us modellers to assemble, add as much detail as we wish and paint in our preferred livery.  Apparently they even had an Adams Radial kit on display.  Though all the buyer has to do with that is stick the roof on ;~)

Somehow, I think Hornby have lost the plot, or perhaps I have !!

Today I received a HUGE box from Amazon. On opening buried at the bottom under packing was a "Master of the Glens" set, which I ordered last Friday for £67, incl postage and a tenner off for last Fridays one day only promo. (As per Bargains thread on this site)

No complaints whatsoever - the P2 is a beaut & runs superb, Three old style Gresleys, two to become engineers mess saloons, one to be grounded & bogies used for a home made diesel brake tender. An oval of track with siding, and a controller & transformer - useful for a test track. All this for £67 post paid, £16 cheaper than one Biomass wagon (and that doesn't include P/P) !!

Quite simply - how / why do they do it ?  Both Hornby & Amazon must have made losses on this.

If they made the above Airfix loco reasonably accurate to a prototype, and to (say) O scale or gauge 1, then many modellers as well as kids would buy one / several.

Do they think at Hornby ?.

You realise that Hornby's offices are now in buildings that used to be the labs of a well known pharmaceutical company - it developed Viagra amongst other things - so who knows what they found in the cupboards. Whatever it was I don't think I want any.

Anyhow 3D printer looks good though no idea where I'd put one and the "starter" system could be a sensible move if they develop the range. Would have been nice to see Airfix do something Kitmasterish.

Wait, what! At first I thought this was going to be a OO gauge kit, but it clearly isn't :( ah well, it'll be interesting to see what it's is going to be like.

That's the worst distortion of a cad image I've seen. We made fun of Oxfords photoshop boob but fancy putting that on the stand at a Toyfair? Maybe it's a multi gauge kit? The front is N and the rear OO?

Electronic as opposed to electric motor? Are marketing prople so desperate they think electronic will appeal more or just that they are so uneducated they don't know the difference?

Didn't the actual tv series film the railway shots at that classically restored LNER station on the bluebell railway using a (extremely) early version of a standard 4MT to pull the train?

I knew that couldn't be Hornby as it had been delivered early!
