That there fossil fuel looks like it might be the wrong type for them there N-gins. :scratchhead:

The hard standing area looks good.

Black Gold mate, that siding will be for Oil Tanks, Loco Storage and the Breakdown Crane as well

Hi Andy

Having a catch up tonight. Must say North road is coming along really well. Like the look of the hard standing outside the sheds. Don't forget plenty of steam sheds did end up being adapted for diesel traction. Look at Barrow Hill or St Blazey for example. If you added some partly closed roller shutter doors to those shed doors if would pass off quite nicely as a converted steam shed.

Some nice sectorised loco's wouldn't go a miss either. C'mon, you know it makes sense HaHaHa!!

Cheers

Marcus

Cheers Marcus, the only way Sectorisation would work would be if I did away with all the Steam infrastructure and Wagons and went for a Blue / 3 Tone Grey / Railfreight era, but again it would be a major investment in Rolling Stock and Units, I do have some Railfreight Wagons that ran in the Blue period so  I'll photograph them tomorrow.

Blue with a bit of left over green is what you want. Jolly Fisherman to Skegness still had a full rake of maroon in the early 70s. Can't remember whether they found green 20s for it or not.

Thanks Paul, that's what I have on the Layout at the moment, along with the od Maroon Western and Warships, (see previous page). it's a good combination.

And so it came to pass that things got a little dirtier in North Road Shed this evening.

Looking great, the weathered stock certainly compliments the great weathering on the buildings and ground.

Keep it up!

Thanks Peter, off to the Greyhound Kennels at Wolverhampton now and then watch F1 Qualifying at mid day, and then some more pics with some Railfreight Stock later.

So, there I was standing at North Road and all of a sudden I noticed a 47 and 2 SPA's (Courtesy of Hugh Flynn) in the Yard with a Speedlink Service from Bristol. 47008 SS Great Britain was in charge

Then that moved out and an Oil Train with 33029 backed into the siding

Then 31268  backed in with a Rake of New Plasmor Wagons.

Next into the Yard was 2 Cargowagons and a Tiphook Steel Carrier with 47060 TAMAR in charge..

And then came some New BDA Steel Wagons with a grubby 47 - 47040 North Star on the front.

Lastly a Class 25 came back in with the 2 SPA's to fill the Yard.

Now I'm definitely in need of the "like a lot" button. Great selection of rolling stock there with some very nice motive power. Perhaps you could just come up to the Railfreight Grey Era just before Sectorisation. That could save you a few bob on rolling stock.

Whichever you choose though the layout will look superb. Can we have a shot of the 50 on the turntable. I wouldn't mind seeing that.

Now during our conversation yesterday you said you would miss running trains of 16 t mineral wagons if you went into the Sectorisation era. Well this is close although I believe they are ex Iron Ore tipplers. Not really up on the older wagon types to be honest. I'm sure someone will shed some light on them.

Anyway these pictures were taken about 20 years ago at Whitnash, south of Leamington Spa on a possession I was working on.

Sorry about the RES 47 picture quality. Ive just screen shot it with the iPad for quickness.

They were always mostly used for removing spoil from work sites and taken to the various tips around the country. A lot of the spoil from round here went to Honeybourne tip on the Oxford line. Avenues sidings at Leamington was another but that closed soon after I started on the railway. Think I went in there once with a train load of spoil. Another one was in the Triangle at Filton / Bristol PW which would suit your layouts general area.

Cheers Marcus, Yes Railfreight Red Stipe / Large Logo would be good, and still go with my Blue Fleet. I had a 37, 56 and 20 in that livery and sold em to a mate, (yet more money burned, so will need a couple of them) and a couple of 37's, one in Dutch, maybe a 47 and a 58 just for starters,

That's a nice collection of blue tin boxes there mate :)

And now you're thinking of going multicoloured, it's all that Marcus's fault. :O

Al.

Edit: Forgot to say, you made a cracking job of the pits and the hardstanding, really nice.

Superb Andy, or is that Jolly Bodger. :D

I do like the 50 on the turntable. Very nice indeed.  Think it might have to be Bristol so you can model the worlds biggest stack of oil drums ever.

Think you could do with some more 50's so you can create scenes like this......

I'm sure D. Turpin Models could sort you out. I'm sure his got a nice green 50007 in stock.

I've just put my Duchess on a well known auction site. It's had less than an hours use on West Shed and is now surplus to requirements on North Road.

It's lightly weathered, Coaled and Crewed and can stay Chip fitted or the Chip can be removed if not required.

Lovely loco Andy, but we can't have them all got to stick with what YOU like, looking forward to dutch 37s on NR...

Hello mate, I've seen you lurking in and out of here over the last few days, yes I don't remember Steam at all, I only,(as far as I know) ever rode behind one Steam Loco in Steam Days despite being born in 1950.

As you know, I really got into it seriously after we met on Eastleigh Station and that was at the start of the Railfreight era, although I did start back in 77 and so I do remember Speedlink quite well.

I'll  hopefully have a Sound Dutch 37 winging it's way to me in a couple of days, and hoping to hear later about a Railfreight Red Stripe 20.

There's no rush to build up stock as I need loads of points to complete NR's Yard once Pen is Sold, at the moment all the Sound Steam stuff will certainly be staying and I need to find a compromise between 68 and pre Sector so that should be fun.

When you look at places like the Peak Forest, the infrastructure hasn't changed a great deal, it's still Semaphore Signals and Grass Banks etc.
