jazz
Moving on, all's going well and all fitting well together. I've still got to sort out the fitting of the wiper pickups but that can wait unfill the build is finished though. jazz
All that's needed now is a really good scrub up after removing unwanted solder. That will be done on Wednesday as I have some other chores to do first. 9
9430
Hi Ken, Do you know which one it is going to be?? Tim.
jazz
Hi Tim. That is not my decision in this instance. My usual instruction is to model them as running in late period. (Love your photo there.) Regards, Ken

jazz
Just finished the Super D. You may spot the third axle is dropped down in the photo, those pair of wheels do not have flanges. All wheels except the rear ones with the gear box are sprung in my usual way. The tender hooks over a swinging tow hook instead of the kit designed tow bar swerve to loco and tender. Also a heavy weight added to the boiler. 15
jazz
Fiddling around with this ex Northstar design LNWR coach. (Now produced by Gladiator). I added three point suspension, partitions and side strengthening along the tops. Still to do is the axle boxes and the roof with added gas piping, grab handles and rain strips. A easy kit to build and fits well together.
jazz
All done and given a good clean ready for priming tomorrow. The roof is detachable and the body unscrews from the chassis. The wheel truck will also unscrew. I have also made the gas pipes split under the roof edge and at the buffer beam to allow the three to split. Brassey
Hi Ken `how do you make the roof detachable? I intend to do this on my 4 wheel and 6 wheel stock. Peter
jazz
Hi Peter. Here are the four elements ready to bolt together. The roof has four side strips that centralise it and the four end verticals are lightly sprung against the ends of the coach. I set the coach side strengtheners half way between the side tops and the window reveals, this give room for those roof side centralisers. If you decide to use the rocking motion on one axle do remember to leave the the securing nuts just loose enough to allow the wheel cradle to rock. The fixed truck should be tight though. Brassey
Thanks for the explanation of a simple but ingenious solution. I guess the same principal can be used for full cab tank engines. Peter
jazz
Certainly can Peter, I use that principal on almost all roofs.
jazz
Here we go again. This time A Gladiator Jubilee SFB. It will be No 45561. Starting with the tender yesterday quite a quick build having built so many it was very easy. No need for the instructions on this so far. I will dabble with the loco chassis over the next few days. That will not be no where near as quick
jazz
A start made on the Jubilee chassis over the past few days. All going well, the chassis ran very smooth without any adjustments. (Not very often that happens) Nothing will be done on the build until after Telford. I have quite a few things to do before that event. Edited August 23, 2019 by jazz 13
jazz
Hi. After an excellent Gauge 0 guild visit and some time spent visiting RAF Cosford and area I've made some progress on the Jubilee. It went together quite well with only a little fettling, mainly the s/box/boiler and firebox. Getting itchy fingers to build one of my purchases for my own layout. Patience will have to avail though.
jazz
Jubilee finished at last. Built as 45561 SASKATCHEWAN. 9
jazz
Hi. I have been busy lately in the garden but happily at the WB for the past few days. This is one for my own layout purchased at Telford annual guild bash there. It's the Agenoria GWR 29 pannier. Originally produced by Pete Stamper. Makes into a very desirable loco too. Here is a couple of photos for now. Edited September 19, 2019 by jazz 12
N15class
Well that didn't take long. Nice the Pete Stamper kits are coming back. 1
jazz
Always pleased with the results obtained from the Agenoria kits, (very pleased Ragstone are now selling them). I formed the tanks following the instructions but added stiffening strips horizontally that made the bending perfect. Also I added a fair bit of weight in the tank too. I did change the safety valve unit for Warren Sheppards one though. Using the Taff Vale Models "1833" Motor, an excellent replica to the Mashima one and a Roxey 40:1 gear box has made a lovely smooth and quiet runner. Medium weathering, coal and crew added. Lamps and Dinghams yet to fit. Edited September 21, 2019 by jazz 16
jazz
I was handed a right mess of a loco a few days ago. The chassis was falling apart, the coach was well of square and the paint work had bee applied with a trowel. A strip down of the chassis and consigning the coach to the bin has resulted in a much better representation of the F9 Drummond "bug". I built the coach and tool boxes in plastikard. Geoff will add the brass T handles post painting. Now ready to pass over to the painter for a complete repaint. (I have painted the chassis black though so the painted does not have to remove the drivers and motor unit) Edited September 28, 2019 by jazz 9
jazz
Next on the bench is the DJH Class 7 Britannia. Now this is not going to be a quick build at all. Loads of etches and even more castings. So, a start is made on the tender. You will see there is no springing on the centre axle, DJH provides axle bushes with an over sized holes on these. Works very well too.
jazz
Not quite finished the tender. Went together quite well, the coal shute was the trickiest part to fit and took a number of tries to get there. I do like all the slots and tabs fit very well with no fiddling around.
jazz
Tender finished except drawbar gear, (that well wait until the loco is built). Quite pleased with the way iy went together, just a lot of etches and castings to sort and assemble. 7
JeffP
Don't the oversize bearings allow the centre axle to "hunt"?
david.hill64
I had forgotten that the big tenders had a coal pusher.
