jazz
Right, just about ready for the primer paint. The turned spectacle rims will be added post final painting. Balance weights to be added prior to priming and painting black as usual. I do not know what livery the model will end up in but this is my own model in the display case. 6
jazz
Thanks Simon. No I did not, I only did the NSR B Class and the NSR New L in standard gauge. The other kits I did was 7mm narrow gauge all Ffestiniog locos and coaches. 1 1
jazz
NSR Class B all boxed off now. It was very interesting building it. 10
jazz
Hi. Having just returned from a week exploring Norfolk is down to building again. This is a GWR ex Barry Railway Class A. The chassis was built a long time ago for the Gladiator show stand. All that remained on that was to add the brake gear and other details. I did that before leaving for Norfolk. Yesterday and today I got on with the body. Quite a straight forward affair too.
jazz
A little more done today. All going OK. Hopefully a full day on the WB tomorrow. 8

This is my next build, I bought a kit which had been just about started, so I will look on to see how you get on with it
jazz
Hi Hayfield, hope you build goes OK. I generally do not purchase part built kit, N15 (Peter Cross has had some interesting experiences on that front). This kit came to me from via a respected builder to complete it. The chassis was started and the work done on it was first rate. The body was untouched. It's now ready for the clean up and priming.
hayfield
Thankfully very little has been done, one valance has been soldered to the footplate and the chassis frames soldered to the spacers. The chassis will be unassembled as I now have a Hobby Holidays chassis jig and want to fit the sprung horn blocks to the chassis sides prior to fitting the frame spacers again using the jig. Your model is looking very good, do you keep the cab roof separate for painting the interior ?
jazz
Hi John. I keep all roofs, where possible, separate and able to clip into place. Sounds like your model will turn out just fine. Regards, Ken
jazz
OK. That's the Barry Class A ready for dispatch. A fairy easy build it was. The only tricky bit was forming the smoke box wrappers. The chassis has compensation on the two front axles. The driven axle is rigid. Edited July 4, 2019 by jazz
jazz
Hi. I've been busy the last couple of days tackling the Gladiator LNER 04/7. Took a bit of juggling with the frames and brake gear to get it round Peco points with plenty of swing to spare. The front of the frames over the pony wheels have to be chopped back a bit as described in the instructions. (OK as is for a static display model though.) 8
david.hill64
Ken, is it just the lighting, but those look like brass frames.......
jazz
Hi David. Yes, they are brass. Judging by the tarnish they must be very early etchings?

I wonder if they are the original DA design: now replaced.
jazz
I have a feeling that is the case. Geoff is cobbling together all kinds of things for me to build.
jazz
Onwards with the 04/7. The body etches are in better shape than the chassis's were. Not much fettling required so far, only on the s/box wrapper area. Great care is required to get the s/box front etch the line up exactly right though. So not too bad at all. 14
jazz
I'm pleased with todays progress. All going well now. The reversing rod is a push fit into the lever on the chassis. That works very well to allow the body to lift off the chassis. 12
jazz
Some things are missing from kit Geoff sent. No buffers and no tender chassis is the biggest issue. Will have to wait for them to arrive. The tender body is almost completed, just a few details to fit. All very straight forward following the usual Gladiator style. 6
jazz
Well, thats as far as I can go until the missing etches and castings arrive. So on with the next project. Edited July 15, 2019 by jazz 11
jazz
Setting the LNER 04 to one side, here we go with the Javelin/Gladiator LNWR Super D. Starting with the busy tender chassis, no problems contracting this, just a busy little chassis it is too. Edited July 17, 2019 by jazz 8
jazz
Getting on the the Super D tender. A bit time consuming getting all the bends and curves correct but on a roll now. 5
jazz
Almost there. Not been a bad build so far but quite a lot to it really. Edited July 19, 2019 by jazz 7
jazz
It's been a while finally completing the 0/4 but got there in the end. Now to carry on with the LNWR Super D. Edited July 24, 2019 by jazz 14
jazz
I've nibbling away at the Super D chassis for the past few days. No exactly a shake the box out it pops by any means. Deciding the pickup arrangements took some head scratching too. I'll jump over to the body now to see how it will fit on the chassis.
jazz
Some progress made today with the body. Going quite well so far with no problems. The most difficult part was forming up the f/box as is normal this this designed kit. 6
