No don't be daft, why would I want you to remove it? That's a lovely job, hand scribed stonework, I think?

It could almost be a model of my house, complete with cellar, except I have a rear porch extension with a toilet and room for utilities.

Nice one mate,

Al.

This evening, working from various photos of the Café I worked out the size and location of the windows and doors, and cut these into the shiplap cladding:

These can now be scribed and cut out of the shell, but more importantly, gave me the dimensions I needed to draw up the windows etc in Silhouette Studio ready for the cutter to cut them out:

I'm not sure I'll have time for this tomorrow, but hopefully Wednesday I can cut them out and see how it all goes together.

Thanks for looking,

Al.

Coming on pretty fast there Al.  Its going to look great once you get a coat of white on.  I can really see the advantage of paint the black corners first with the shiplap now butting the corner posts.

Looking really good that Al - I love watching how your buildings are constructed and slowly come to life :)

As for my pic, I only meant that I didn't want to hi-jack your thread ;)

Rear porch extension, eh? Now there's an idea.

Yes - It's my usual hand-scribed stonework on pvc foamex. It's not for anything particular other than my own pleasure. I'd fallen out of love with modelling just recently, but your builds have inspired me. That and the fact that it's completely dead at work at the moment...

It's come to a halt now though because I need some filler for a couple of dodgy corner joints :(

*edit* Update - I have filler!

After some consideration today, I have decided to build the Café as the full building, rather than half or three-quarter relief, one reason being it makes life simpler, and the other being I don't think even if I did successfully built it with a section chopped off, it would look right.

So the extra section was added to the right-hand end:

post-17302-0-64263700-1484082162_thumb.jpg

Th walls were beginning to get a bit unweildy now, and so I took some of this:

post-17302-0-52932500-1484082164_thumb.jpg

Which is 4.8mm square styrene rod, and built a nice rigid framework to attach everything to, and to keep things square:

So here's a birds-eye view of the plan of the building:

And just to remind you, here's some repeat views of the prototype:

I hope to start cutting holes for the windows tomorrow.

Thanks for looking

Looking better as a full building Al, but a little concerned about the Coaches in pic 1 mate, looks like they've met some pretty bad Track Laying. hahhaha

Cheers mate, yeah they do look a bit off the rails. :D

Well, Bodgit is doing a Larry, Marcus is doing Cliffs, so what am I doing?

Poking holes in things...

First, I've added the back walls of the building, so it's all solid now:

post-17302-0-07333100-1484257380_thumb.jpg

Then, I've been marking out the windows on the shell, and cutting them:

post-17302-0-35582400-1484257386_thumb.jpg

And then, having printed (cut) the windows out on the Portrait cutter, I've been removing all the waste bits from the windows:

post-17302-0-74524600-1484257389_thumb.jpg

Leaving a nice pile of chads...

post-17302-0-91851000-1484257391_thumb.jpg

and a complete window:

post-17302-0-43433900-1484257393_thumb.jpg

Which fits the hole in the building (only hopefully less wonky)

post-17302-0-95195100-1484257394_thumb.jpg

Only another four to do, and then the frames, so should be finished by Christmas...

Thanks for looking,

Al.

At least your hole in wall poking is destructively constructive, and another cracking job mate, well done.

Cheers mate, your Larryism must be constructively destructive then :)

I reckon BV's going to be another blinder.

Hi Al, I'm not sure if you know, but you can go over cuts by running the cut process more than once (as long as you don't press the eject button!). If you are using .010" styrene you should be able to cut through, which should speed up removal of chads.

Cheers Jason, I've got "Double Cut" ticked, but I keep forgetting I can re-run it again, it would make life much easier. Thanks for the nudge.

A bit of an update on what I've done this evening.

The main structure of the Café is now so holey, it should be a chapel! :D

All the apertures for windows and doors have been cut into the shell:

post-17302-0-83901600-1484358343_thumb.jpg

post-17302-0-60402100-1484358345_thumb.jpg

post-17302-0-39714000-1484358347_thumb.jpg

I've sprayed the outer window frames matt black:

post-17302-0-08956700-1484358349_thumb.jpg

Which, when layed on top of the white second layer you saw me cutting on Thursday, looks like this:

post-17302-0-25882200-1484358351_thumb.jpg

which is just how I wanted them to look. The layers aren't stuck together yet, so it is a bit out of alignment there, hopefully when I come to join them together they will be straight.

Finally, having transferred all the marking out of the windows etc, I sprayed up the shiplap cladding in White:

post-17302-0-69499900-1484358352_thumb.jpg

They are stuck to a piece of card with masking tape so they didn't blow away whilst I was spraying.

More later today,

Al.

Unfortunately I have barely had any time to myself this weekend, so nothing much has been done.

All I've managed is to add some supporting structure for the roof, and the third chimney. Hopefully I can get cracking on the roofing this week.

In other news, I saw a video taken in the eighties of a Class 31 on parcels going through Grindleford, so I've gathered together the necessary bits.

So In a classic eighties tradition, here's a filthy Class 31 and some mucky parcels stock:
