No, only one has had a second pan fitted and that was well after the renumbering. It was indeed when they underwent a major overhaul, extra grilles were cut into the sides just behind the cab door. Not sure, but it looks like the second pan has a European profile rather than the standard BR profile that the other pan has, so I suspect it was/is for test purposes. Agreed. Eversholt had major development programmes with the 91s when I was there as we tried to improve reliability (and stop them discarding cardan shafts, one of which demolished the waiting shelter at Doncaster station and finished in the front seat of a Merc parked in the station car park).
