My few 91 photos, by the time they were getting into full service I was starting to lose interest in the trainspotting

91 001 at Crewe works 4/7/87 This was before it actually became 91 001...There was a sign on it saying please do not take photographs but no one was paying any attention to that

91 003 Passing Kensal Green 5/11/88 Not sure quite why it was on the WCML, heading towards Willesden I presume to gain access to the North London Line to get back over to the ECML

91 003 another shot passing Kensal Green

91 009 Kings Cross 26/4/91

91 019 Kings Cross 11/4/92

Are the wagons Freightliner flats with open containers (if you can have such a thing)? And are the containers the full length (60') of the wagon, or multiples, but only some with ends? Or something else?

I was going to say no as you couldn't find a long enough trailer to road it, but then I found this

so yes it is....

What a fantastic thread.

I work for Freightliner, and lucky enough to get on class 86s regularly. Of course I take photos when possible, so I hope these are of interest.

Incidentally and it was mentioned further up the thread, AL6s were built in Rail (Monastral) Blue rather than Electric Blue. Very few of them received red buffer beams and going off my own research, the only ones that did were the same locos that were built without a yellow warning panel.

The yellow panels were applied to these within a matter of months if not weeks.

The locos with red bufferbeams were the first handful outshopped from Vulcan Foundry/Donny Works, i.e. E310x and E316x. Perhaps half a dozen from each batch.

There was a proposal to repaint one of our locos into their original livery, but sadly this did not take place. However as part of this proposal I took paint samples from all of our locos, which would confirm the above.

Enjoy the photos. I update this gallery fairly regularly.

Cheers

I was working in Polesworth box at the time and the 91s were a fairly regular sight as they came off the delivery line at Crewe. They were delivered to Bound's Green under their own power via the Trent Valley, up the WCML and over to the NLL as you say so  it is likely that your photo depicts this move.

Hi,

I will take a look through your photos this evening. A quick question for you (as you work for freightliner), are the 86's set to continue their stay at freightliner for the long term future? It would be sad to see them go.

Best regards,

Jeremy
