here's a dumb question. does the tractive effort of model locos actually combine in the same way as real locos when double heading? Were your 6 locos hauling more than one could?

Interesting one Colin

My gut feeling is yes but will have to get a spring balance out to prove it

Phil

Hi Phil,

I can add to my own question. Slightly less scientific than the spring balance, but I was messing about testing a spiral for my new layout and decided to try a quick double head. A Dapol terrier piloting my Hornby M7 managed to get up the spiral with a load that neither of them could manage on their own. My conclusion from that limited evidence is yes

Some more of Brian Thomas's super early 70s pictures

The first one emerged at the 85A open day on Saturday

Oh yes! That's 44006 on a down freight just to prove they did make it

And that's a 45 on - Bolster Es again. Going in the right direction but cant read the headcode - could be the Llandeilo Jct to Langley Green working...

A nice split box 45 passes the 4 track section - the nearest track is just a kick back siding, only ever remember seeing scrap stock stored in there

And finally for tonight

Thanks again for sharing Bri!

Another year has gone by

Whilst Abbotswood is my pet project I have a lot of help and support from others especially my son James but also plenty of folk on here - you all know who you are - either directly or indirectly through forums

Thank you all! the project would be diminished without your input

How the hell in Gods name have I missed this....... :O

Lovely atmospheric layout Phil, love the multiple 20's!!!! :good:

These latest  prototype photos are great too!!!!

Keep it all coming

Jinty ;-)

Jnits ..... you're to bloody busy soldering fiddly bits of copper clad sleepers to some rail, so you never have your head up to look at anything else ... and inhaling those soldering fumes don't help either  :biggrin_mini2:

Abbotswood is a beautiful layout .. and faithful to the stock that ran at the time.

Youtube videos have passed 300,000 views today!

Sounds like a landmark - but 250,000 of them are on the "When model Railways go wrong video"!

Never mind, at least the other 50,000 have better tastes.

Cheers

Well done Phil :D

Think that means you need to upload a new video!!!

Paul

That'll be when the sun is shining again then!

May perhaps????

More new motive power and stock by then -

Vanwides are coming along nicely, 6 of them just waiting for buffers from DaveF, then transfers and weathering. Bet Bachmann do them this year!

2 more conflats to chain the containers to and weather, plus 6 x 16 ton minerals to add scrap loads to, have something very specific in mind for them, watch this space.....

Also APC built from Gramkits model - is now finished - to chain to Lowmac

Another 6 Mk1 end vehicles have been detailed over Xmas including working tail lamps, just waiting for transfers from Modelmaster to renumber coaches in rakes before weathering

5528 - paintwork now done, needs a coat of gloss varnish before transfers and weathering

5230 next in to works, Bacchy base model 25245 needs nose end doors adding and boiler filler footsteps plating over before touching up and renumbering

D6506 arrived via Santa - Hurrah many thanks - needs a sound chip plus speaker, I reckon that's in line for a Legobiffoman super duper fuel tank installation, already have the tanks to do 5410 and 5382, awaiting the speakers from DCC supplies

Then theres layout tidying and some track repairs to do

Plus another 6 signal arms to get working....

Keeps me off the street!!!

Oh plus there will be the Bacchy class 43 warships at some stage....

If I get that lot finished by Trainwest I shall be a happy bunny.
