It does have a look of Bradford or Halifax to me, the parcel bay definitely adds more to the layout without a overly cluttered / crammed in look and is very interesting

Simon

More progress with a walkway added to the platform ends. And the new parcels platform now has barriers added to the rear side.

Mail train approaches Drabford.

After running round at the station, the train moves to the sidings.

Then backs into the parcels siding.

Dmu arrives.

Thanks Simon.

The layout has a lot more operating interest with the new parcels bay, lots of extra moves.

Hi to all, and thanks for the encouraging comments.

I will be having another running session when the platform is finished, so a few more videos coming soon.

Here is tonight's progress, in the same style as the other platforms, the edging stones masked off, then covered the platform surface with sand, glued with P.V.A.

Platform progress.

Masking tape removed off edging slabs.

After the sand had dried, a mix of emulsion test pot paints was used for the tarmac surface.

I have done all 3 platforms, I was not happy with the shades on the other two.

Next job is to fit the platform lamps.

That looks brilliant, what have you used for the bundles please?

Thanks, here are the ingredients I used,

1 Christmas card, cut into squares

PVA glue

Reduced photo copies of newspapers, for the tops

Brown string, for the bundles.

Catch Point.

This has been on a shall I, or shan't I to do list for a while.

I did not want to cut up a brand new point, and I am not keen on the Peco catch point.

So a second hand trader at this weekends Mansfield show gave me the go ahead with a delapidated Peco right hand point for £1.

The run round before work commenced,

The dilapidated point in position.

Track section removed.

Point in position and ballasted, with rails painted rusty.

The plastic Insulfrog has been removed and replaced with a complete new rail to improve running. This point will not be operational, it is just for cosmetic purpose.

More detail work, with steps added to the side of the parcels platform, and also the area behind platform now has a tarmac surface. (Its patchy because it is still wet).

Completed steps.

Shaun.

I used this same method, but used some fine ‘tarmac’ scatter - however I found the scatter a bit coarse and tried compressing it when still wet (This was for a rural Station). What do you use for the edging stones? I wondered if the masking tape lifted any of the detail?

Hi Marlyn,

The platforms are made from hardboard and the edging stones are just scribed into the surface.

(The two gaps cut out are supposed to be stones missing)

The masking tape was used to prevent the sand getting onto the edging stones, to create a different surface. I agree the sand is a little coarse and I'm looking to use something finer for future platform surfaces.

Masking tape was also used for painting the edging line.

The point looks very good pal superb weathering  and your stock was very smart on the depot on sunday at mansfield sounding very good .

Looks good Shaun, like the way you've weathered the point as well. Good stuff!

Steve.

 Thanks,

Only the rails sides have been painted, but I do intend to weather the ballast. Waiting for the weather to warm up, so I can get the layout set up outside and also use natural daylight.
