Oooh, very nice. The guard in the birdcage is a great touch, haven't seen that done before.

Just a quick post to thank @2ManySpams for my ballast bin. This shows the strength of RMWeb. I helped Chris with the dimensions for one of these from a 4mm model I had. Although a simple thank you would have been sufficient the good Spamalot decided to make two bins and give me the second. Thank you Chris! Photographed here with the palvan I took to Taunton and back. A well-travelled wagon! Still surplus to requirements if anyone wants to make me an offer :)

I have ballasted the sections under the two road bridges to allow me to carry on with fixing the supporting structure for them to the boards.

I had a tidy up and thought a couple of general views might be in order....

The decision was made a while back and after a wait I now have the kit for my first 7mm loco build - the ex-LSWR Ilfracombe goods. Management of expectations alert : I won't be making a start till July and then I will be taking my time!

Anyhow in the meantime here's what I got for my money. Kit from Laurie Griffin, wheels and pickups from Slaters and motor/gearbox awaited from MSC Models.

Smashing service from Narrow Planet the plates arrived today. They are actually the Selsey Tram plates which were worn by a tank loco (I knew that)

They need repainting because of that as the suitable background colour for my needs is red.

More good service, this time from MSC Models. Motor, gearbox and flywheel arrived today. That's the last piece off the jigsaw really.

Just a quick update on a distraction I have allowed myself.

While I wait for the Ilfracombe goods coupling rods to arrive, I thought I would make a start on the chassis for the Ford railbus which will be the next project on the bench after the 0-6-0. I wanted to get as far as I needed to judge the position of the DCC Chip and speaker, for a forthcoming shopping outing to sunny Lincoln :)

So here is the Ford with its floor in place. This is the unpowered car and will carry the speaker and chip. I think the speaker will go in the motor space (maybe precluding the fitting of the dummy prop shaft, not a massive loss) and the chip might fit between the chassis and the floor for neatness, otherwise maybe alongside the speaker.

I have done  a bit more on the Ford, because I am still waiting on the coupling rods for the Ilfracombe Goods

Second chassis made, and then I pressed on to make bonnet, radiator, brakes, mudguards, drivers seat and controls. I also added the inserts to the slaters wheels. Just pickups and motor to fit and then repeat for the second car. At least having got this far will enable me to judge the space available for a suitable driver figure which I can shop for at Telford.

Hi all. I have one half of a Ford railbus rolling chassis - seen here on the rolling road   :)     Currently travelling faster then it ever will in service!!!!

The observant amongst you will notice a tail of four wires. This is the plug connector to the other car. Two wires will take the pick ups from this car to the DCC chip in the other one. The other two wires will bring the motor current back from the chip to the motor. Another similar plug will be needed for the headlight and interior lighting.
