Hornby J94s - Leeds-built examples

Hi,

I want to buy Hornby (or maybe DJ Models) example of a Hunslet Austerity/J94 0-6-0ST. However, I'd specifically like to buy a model that is of a locomotive which was actually built in Leeds - by the Hunslet Engine company or Hudswell Clarke - as I'm aiming to focus my collection a little on this area over the next few years.

Ideally I'd want one in an industrial livery but BR black would also be an option - does anyone know how I can find out where any given J94/Austerity was built?

And does anyone know if the Cadley Hill No.1 that Hornby produce was a Leeds-built loco? From what I've been able to establish on google, I think it was but I can't find a pic in which i can read the builder's plate so can't be 100% sure.

Thanks

Unfortunately it's one which the Wikipedia page is poor.

There are quite a few preserved examples here.

But I'll have a search and look for the work numbers of the Leeds built ones. Which was most of them really.

Definitely down to research.

This list will give you the builders.

The livery needs a bit more digging as preserved examples may be in a livery that they did not carry or is fictitious.

Surely it doesn't matter if Hornby or DJM produce a loco with the right number on, change the number and obtain a new set of etched builders plates from Narrow Planet?

If you can find one secondhand Hornby's red "Harry" was built by Hudswell Clarke.

However Hunslet supplied boilers to other manufacturers so even a Stafford-built Bagnall loco could have a Hunslet boiler.   Bits tended to be pooled, and once in service parts migrated from one loco to another at repair.

All the best

Les
