I’ve noticed on some photos there is a pipe up the side, would this be for filling or an overflow? As I always assumed the tank was filled up through the column so to my mind any additional pipework would be as an overflow

Some tanks have’um and some tanks don’t

Must be an overflow, it looks far too small to be a filler. Maybe the others didn't have one, and just overflowed over the top if there was any problem with the inlet valve...

Can't be an overflow as the water would never be able to get up over the top part of the pipe before it sloshed over the sides of the tank.  Overflow pipes would be connected into the tank, near the top, but not over the top edge.

So I would say filler.  It's a tank, it holds lots of water and can discharge it quickly into a loco. But this isn't a much-used facility, so the filling of the tank can be done by a small pipe, it will take time, but there is no rush.

If there is a need to fill more locos, then get a bigger tank...

Good point!

Perhaps, then, a preservation-era filler that has been added to replace the original that ran up the column? Maybe to feed from a water-treatment facility rather than direct?

Oops, I should know better really with the amount of settlement tanks I’ve drawn over the years, something of that size I’d normally put it a minimum of six inches from the top using 3” NB pipe

I’ll get my coat

there is a water treatment plant in the small building under Bewdley’s column on the Rock siding; not sure if it’s operational at the moment though, or whether that pipe comes from it. I’ll have a look next time I’m down and add some details here if folk are that interested

Had a couple of coats of my homebrew light stone

It’s gone on a bit thick because I forgot that I’d upped the pressure on my airbrush when I applied a coat of Vallejo surface primer….I find that the Vallejo air colours don’t adhere directly to Halfrauds primer so I’ve started to apply a coat of the Vallejo primer first…..appears to work better

I need to leave it alone* until tomorrow before doing anything else

*I’m terrible for messing with stuff before paint has fully cured, I know I shouldn’t and it always ends in disaster when I do…..message to self “THEN STOP DOING IT KN08ED!”

I’ve done the revised concrete supports with different colours

last time I used white, grey, concrete and black

this time I’ve used light grey, concrete, light brown, dark brown and black

Give it a brown wash, it'll be fine.

Thanks Stu, I’ve got some brown wash :good:

No going back now, the concrete has been poured and the shuttering removed

at least I managed to get a telephone consultation with the nurse practitioner at the GP today (after two days trying) so it least I’ve got some stuff to take and other stuff to slap on my eyeball

Correction, Sarah managed to get me a telephone appointment because she didn’t give up as easily as I did and just kept redialling until they answered

Looking good Chris, not bad for a one-eye...

Thanks Al

luckily after using the stuff prescribed the swelling has gone down quite a bit already and I can open my eye enough to see which is a relief

I just need to get it done otherwise there’s just going to be pages and pages of the water tower virtually unchanged

I really should just take photos as as go along and put them in one post to save on RMweb server space and to stop people getting bored with the daily updates of very little progress

I’ve since tried to tidy it up behind the level gauge

Cruel close up

I’m sure it will be fine once it’s weathered :scratchhead:

The ‘hose’ that comes with the Ratio kit is quite frankly an insult

When I did my water column I used heat shrink tubing which worked well but I want it to hang vertically and having come off a roll I couldn’t great rid of the curve

I couldn’t quite figure out how @KNP did his but it looked like it was made out of tube….sorry if I’m wrong Kevin

anyway that’s how I’ve done mine, progressively swishing the end of some styrene tube with some smooth faced pliers
