There's one here but there are buy it now options as well. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/304496101371?epid=86360146&hash=item46e561c7fb:g:-ncAAOSwCg9iZstS Regards Lez. I bought a copy quite some years ago and have only recently been able to put Martin's advice into practice. Although it focuses mostly on 7mm scale models, the techniques used can easily be scaled down. If you don't have a copy, it's worth hunting down.
RMweb Gold lezz01 Posted May 22, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 22, 2022 Yes you are right Andy two volumes, I have both of them myself. They are also very good. Regards Lez.
RMweb Gold Rowsley17D Posted May 22, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 22, 2022 A great "how I did it" Chris and no doubt the orders are about to fly from those who have GWT BLTs. Just to be pedantic for a mo, the part you called a screw brake is the reverser screw which operates the valve gear.

TOTALLY GOBSMACKED in fact. You need a job with someone like Accurascale or Revelution Trains with quality and production from nothing to running like that. I’d love that although I don’t think I get away with guessing or using modellers license plus I’d have to make sure it had the correct size and number of rivets That said I’m sure they actually have the opportunity to measure the real thing and have access to more information? ——————————- And finally the interior the driver, billycan, shovel and hung up jacket is from Modelu the fireman is from Hardy’s Hobbies because I wanted a fireman without a shovel or jacket I don’t enjoy painting figures but I don’t think I did too badly and finally the strange looking slots in the front and rear of the cab are revealed as a method of adding glazing without glue and without the need for glazing being glued to the inside that would spoil the look on the inside Other than few little bits to add like the sandbox pipes and brake rods that’s it…nearly three months of work condensed into a couple of pages Thanks to @MrWolf for the idea, the help with the research, his support and giving me an excuse to have a break from the layout (a welcome distraction) 6 1 5

You are already a confident airbrush user Chris, so loco weathering is a most natural progression. I learned from RMWeb's sadly departed Mick Bonwick via a couple of courses at Pendon and enjoy the benefits which the airbrush brings and am constantly learning. You will have some suitable practice pieces, including that ebay Star Class shell, so have a go. If it helps, I've documented my lessons learned at Pendon over on my Newton Regis layout thread, page 1,where my first two loco victims can be seen in the shape of a 57 and 45xx. Do have a go and discover a subtle minimalist way of using the airbrush, which I find rewarding and satisfying. 😃 1 1
MrWolf
This is wonderful stuff Chris, but it leaves me with a small problem. How quickly can I clear the spare room, assemble both the layout and Desk of Doing / Bench of Bodge so that I can get on with the metal chassis'ed Hornby powered version in the hope of making something equally impressive? Painting is going to be my biggest concern I think!

I'm not in the same class as Rob or Andy, but the results they achieve speak for themselves. You might want to try those instead on some test pieces. You are quite right Al and I use powders on road vehicles and buildings, as well to enhance rolling stock. It was Mick who gave me my first weathering powders and showed me how to use them (very sparingly). They're brilliant. MrWolf
Still one of my favourite ways to weather. These gates were aged with drybrushing. They're actually Peco plastic mouldings that have been available for four decades or so.

MrWolf
There's a whole lot of interesting locos, just from the companies absorbed the GWR alone. There are kits for some of them, but they're not cheap! 1

MrWolf
I've never looked at that before. Apparently I have won fifteen days. I'm thinking that's probably over five decades.....🙄 Apparently, the last time on February 7th. Admittedly, I haven't really done much modelling since then. I'd better get busy! 3
