I've thinned it down a few kgs and drilled a countersink similar to the photo

It isn’t pretty good any more.

It’s excellent.

Really well done.

Paul.

As previously mentioned a ‘normal’ person would wait much longer for glue to cure before doing anything

I’m far to impatient for that!

I’ve tried not to over-weather the post and it’s been given a overall coat of matt varnish (excluding the moving parts)

Half way there, the next step is to do the matching hole in the platform ramp and hope it fits as planned....if not I’ve made a diarrhoea-rama and ruined a thirty quid signal

It's looking absolutely great, I think that you are creating a convincing overall picture here. One thing I have learned over the years as a professional artist is that you can drive yourself insane trying to put every single detail that you know should be there into a painting, even though you can't really see it (The brain 'knows' it's there and accepts it) and you can end up with a picture that seems somehow unconvincing, because the eyes are instructed to search for yet more. Far better to suggest that it is a complete picture and the brain ticks the box as real. How much time do we spend poring over atmospheric 90 years old photographs looking for details that even a machine that was there at the time could not record? After all, we are trying to recreate those old pictures in 3D, miniature and in colour. Viewing a well made layout is about as close as we can get to stepping into those prewar photographs and you're doing a hell of a job of crossing that threshold.

Keep it up!

Thank you

As long as it gives the impression of a mid thirties railway that’s good enough for me

Warren staff are issued with cricket boxes to protect members :jester:

Many years ago Rachael Heyhoe-Flint was asked whether women cricketers wore boxes. Her answer was yes, but they called them manhole covers.

I wasn’t 100% happy with the position of the chain from the counter balance, it just didn’t look right.

So I’ve moved it and replaced the plank with the original hole in it

A straight pull on any chain, cable or rod is best engineering practice for mechanical advantage and reducing the chance of jamming. Well done.

Correct, I’m an engineer myself so that’s why it was bothering me

I was an engineer until about 15 years ago, but hopping all over the planet ended up costing me everything in the end. I had to start again and decided that I would be happier making a living from my hobbies. It's working well so far!

I’ve made a start on Part 2

It’s taken hours to get this far, I had to cut off the ramp because it was out of square which ordinarily wouldn’t matter but it made positioning the box difficult

It looks a bit of a mess at the moment but it’s a work in progress

The paving in this photo is for trial purposes only

Not sure if I should put a kerb around the planking or just butt up the paving?

Either way the signal assembly lifts in and out as designed.....Phew!!!!

I’m wondering if I should fill the mortar gap on all the 1/4 length slabs at the front

like I did at the removable section

I’m not sure but only because it’s a mammoth task

If only!

I do not want to mention how many things I have tossed in the bin because I could not just leave it overnight.  Live and learn I guess.

I needed to take a break from the platform so I had a look a messing about with a Wills pagoda hut to see if I could make it in low relief

Cutting the one piece roof in half was challenging

I filled off the moulded gutters....

.....and used the gutters from the left overs out of the Peco station house kit

The windows are also from the station house kit but I’m well aware they are wrong so it will probably end up in the bin unless I can find some more suitable windows

I appreciate that they were more likely used at halts or opposite platforms but I just wanted one (rule #1)

I must admit I was a little disappointed at the poor quality of the roof moulding especially being a Wills product

I may have found a solution for the windows, again using the left overs from the station house kit (waste not, want not)

By cutting it in half and re-attaching the ‘sill’ I've ended up with this...

Unfortunately the hole is too big so I’m going to have to do a patch job using the left over corrugated side

So much for a quick job
