One thing I have learned over the years as a professional artist is that you can drive yourself insane trying to put every single detail that you know should be there into a painting, even though you can't really see it (The brain 'knows' it's there and accepts it) and you can end up with a picture that seems somehow unconvincing, because the eyes are instructed to search for yet more. Far better to suggest that it is a complete picture and the brain ticks the box as real. How much time do we spend poring over atmospheric 90 years old photographs looking for details that even a machine that was there at the time could not record? After all, we are trying to recreate those old pictures in 3D, miniature and in colour. Viewing a well made layout is about as close as we can get to stepping into those prewar photographs and you're doing a hell of a job of crossing that threshold. RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted April 3, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 3, 2020 I’ve made a start on Part 2 It’s taken hours to get this far, I had to cut off the ramp because it was out of square which ordinarily wouldn’t matter but it made positioning the box difficult It looks a bit of a mess at the moment but it’s a work in progress The paving in this photo is for trial purposes only Not sure if I should put a kerb around the planking or just butt up the paving? RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted April 5, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 5, 2020 (edited) I needed to take a break from the platform so I had a look a messing about with a Wills pagoda hut to see if I could make it in low relief Cutting the one piece roof in half was challenging I filled off the moulded gutters.... .....and used the gutters from the left overs out of the Peco station house kit The windows are also from the station house kit but I’m well aware they are wrong so it will probably end up in the bin unless I can find some more suitable windows I appreciate that they were more likely used at halts or opposite platforms but I just wanted one (rule #1) I must admit I was a little disappointed at the poor quality of the roof moulding especially being a Wills product Edited April 5, 2020 by chuffinghell 8 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
