A lovers concerto - The Toys

I love this song so much; it's one of the great forgotten hits of the sixties.

Did a bit of youtubing yesterday, and the ones I'm still humming are Twist & Shout by The Beatles (my favourite Beatles track), and Somewhere Over the Rainbow by the late Israel Kamakawiwo'ole (Big Iz) - magical.

Hello there,

....I use this site   http://www.classicbands.com/whosangthat.html    to track down my forgotten favourites as well as new ones heard on the radio...then download them from e.g.'I Tunes' into an 'I Pod' to play on our Bose. The sound is excellent and any manner of playlist can be created.

Fabulous way into music

The Raven that refused to Sing- Steven Wilson

Not sure yet but will grow on me I'm sure .

Sounds that can't be made- Marillion - now I think after hundreds of plays of the M5 its a classic in the vein of "Marbles" and "Brave"

Very much into Fenech - Soler at the moment after the release of 'Maiyu'.

After hearing 'The Stars Are Out Tonight', Bowie's new album will certainly be on the for Mondays purchases, including Foals 'Holy Fire' and the as ever Depech Mode sounding 'Exile' by Hurts.

To go even further into my varied music tastes, i hope my local HMV* still has a few copies of Monster & Men's 'My Head Is An Animal' too!

*It seems Basingstoke is one of the few lucky stores of HMV to remain open!

Currently listening to the avuncular Brian Matthew, on R2's Sounds of the Sixties. A regular Saturday morning highlight.

If you can't give me love - Suzi Quattro

A much under-rated song and singer. Anyone remember her as Leather Tuscadero on Happy Days?

Just been on the tube of you, looking up some old faves, including:

Windmills of Your Mind, by Noel Harrison (son of Rex)

Gentle On My Mind - Dean Martin

The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down - Joan Baez

Somewhere Over the Rainbow - Israel Kamakawiwo'ole

Objects in the Rear View Mirror May Appear Closer Than They Are - Meat Loaf

Everything Louder Than Everything Else - Meat Loaf

and finally, my all-time favourite song, Chelsea Morning, by the wonderful Joni Mitchell. Whenever I'm feeling down or blue, I only have to listen to this beautiful piece of music and my spirits are instantly lifted.

Realy enjoyed the BBC4 documantary on Dr Feelgood the other night....

An under-rated band in my opinion!

Good, honest pub rock :)

... and some great songs like "Milk & Alcohol" and "Roxette"

They were one of the few "acceptable to punks" bands that were around before punk, weren't they? Wilco Johnson could not have looked cooler.

Jake Bugg -

Can't be many nineteen year olds who cite The Everley Brothers as a main influence! His album has a wonderful fifites and early sixties feel in places :)

Not the only act with fifties influence either -

My Dad, showing his age perhaps, likes them due to the influences! He's an Buddy Holly and Eddie Cochran fan and even got to see Holly live!

Yes, along side bands like Eddie & The Hot Rods

They played their own style of Rock n Roll / Blues -

a bit more "punky" in style.....

Yes, Wilko Johnson looked cool

I always thought he was a bit odd, with his unusual stance & shuffle...

But he came accross really well in the programme....

 - worth seeking it out on iplayer :)
