Those who can, do.

Those who can’t, teach.

Those who can’t teach, teach teachers.

Said to me by a Professor of Educational Psychology who was a teacher trainer…

All of which rather denigrates the educational industry as a whole.

Usually promulgated by those who thought they knew 'better' than the teachers themselves?

But, in my experience , had totally 'missed the point?'

Or , had I missed the point for a couple of decades, and the reality was, in fact, that education was a purely box-ticking exercise?

The alternative version is:

Those who can, do.

Those who can't, teach.

Those who can't teach, teach geography.

It always amused us that our geography teacher, who was of diminutive stature, used to display on his classroom wall a calendar from the National Small Bore Association.

Sadly a lot of this expertise is unknown to and/or unappreciated by opinionated politicians and commentators against whose malign influence the teaching profession has to struggle, making the best of a bad job in terms of what is imposed from above.

And not only in the teaching profession.  Very few politicians, and even fewer civil servants, have the remotest idea of what goes on 'at the sharp end'!

That's because there are folk employed, who are handsomely paid to know what goes on at the sharp end...?

I have found that many at a 'sharp end' have little idea of the bigger picture anyway...

I prefer the version "Those who can, teach. Those who can't become DfE civil servants". The thoughts of a secondary school governor.

And those who can’t become DfE civil servants, become governors? ;)

Just asking..

I dunno. Never tried becoming a DfE civil servant... I do know I could never teach.

I have taught for a living (albeit not as a teacher). I can tell you now, it’s hard work, done properly.

I've always found that to be the biggest hurdle....getting folk to realise things need to be done  'properly'

Same with everything, which is why we have “00”.

Sorry, did I say that out loud? ;)

What's with all the stupid Black Friday sale nonsense?  Today I had to not only put up with the usual end of year retail greed season (formerly called Christmas) with businesses trying to get me to buy their useless tacky stuff, but I had to put up with endless adverts for brain dead Black Friday sales as well that were trying to do the same thing.  Another nasty American idea that leaked out of that thrice cursed country that the rest of the world doesn't need.

Isn’t it more a question of what the world needs from a self-proclaimed “leader of the free world”: genuine leadership which means putting other countries first?

I’d have thought the better option would be for them to stop self-proclaiming any such thing, climb down off their soapbox of manifest destiny, and engage in a dialogue of equals.

But, that isn’t going to happen, because when you have control of vast amounts of natural resources, and a huge number of people at your nominal disposal, then you tend to get a bit overbearing.

Not to mention one of with a disturbing number of nationals who demonstrate a worryingly selective definition of "freedom".

And, if you want a bank-balance on which the sun never sets, there’s always:

Lately, my bank-balance does indeed seem to evaporate before sundown.

You have bank balance to see evaporate?   .... Respect!

My bank account never sees the sun set.  My Will says "being of sound mind, I've spent it "

Whist on the topic of bank balances.......

Lidl have finally seen the light!

I discovered yesterday that after years of selling parsley, ????,  rosemary and thyme in the herbs department, they have finally realised their mistake, and are now stocking sage!

Lidl now seem to have disposed of the old copy of Simon & Funkles' record...

For my part, I now no longer need to briefly haunt the spicey section of my local Tesco...In fact, I find I no longer need to go into Tesco, at all!

Sainsbury, Waitrose, and M&S Fudd being completely out of my socio-econermic group!
