Usually promulgated by those who thought they knew 'better' than the teachers themselves? But, in my experience , had totally 'missed the point?' Or , had I missed the point for a couple of decades, and the reality was, in fact, that education was a purely box-ticking exercise?

Those who can't teach, teach geography. It always amused us that our geography teacher, who was of diminutive stature, used to display on his classroom wall a calendar from the National Small Bore Association.

RMweb Premium Annie Posted November 26, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 26, 2021 What's with all the stupid Black Friday sale nonsense? Today I had to not only put up with the usual end of year retail greed season (formerly called Christmas) with businesses trying to get me to buy their useless tacky stuff, but I had to put up with endless adverts for brain dead Black Friday sales as well that were trying to do the same thing. Another nasty American idea that leaked out of that thrice cursed country that the rest of the world doesn't need. 2

Nearholmer
I’d have thought the better option would be for them to stop self-proclaiming any such thing, climb down off their soapbox of manifest destiny, and engage in a dialogue of equals. But, that isn’t going to happen, because when you have control of vast amounts of natural resources, and a huge number of people at your nominal disposal, then you tend to get a bit overbearing. (Other temporarily-overbearing nations are available on request)

alastairq
Whist on the topic of bank balances....... Lidl have finally seen the light! I discovered yesterday that after years of selling parsley, ????, rosemary and thyme in the herbs department, they have finally realised their mistake, and are now stocking sage! Lidl now seem to have disposed of the old copy of Simon & Funkles' record... For my part, I now no longer need to briefly haunt the spicey section of my local Tesco...In fact, I find I no longer need to go into Tesco, at all! Sainsbury, Waitrose, and M&S Fudd being completely out of my socio-econermic group! 1
