Strange then, considering the lead weight in the same coach. However if it isn't lead but just looks a lot like lead then I guess I won't end up washing all my things about a million times!

The lead weight could have been added by the previous owner!

I think the wheels on my hatchette mk1s might have white lead? they look similar in colour to the weight and they have these weird spots of white stuff

Tubs, if you carry on like this you will die of worry before heavy metal contamination has any chance of affecting your constitution !!!

If you think you have handled lead or any other toxic substance just wash your hands thoroughly and don't worry any further.

it was just a joke fortunately, but I am still wondering how I'll go about washing all my modelling things

Just bought an 0-4-0 in box, pretty sure it's never been used as it's listed 'as new' and the wheels are spotless. Here's a photo of it that I nabbed from hattons:R2189-U_3203417_Qty1_1.jpg.91a51af6aab4b4475755b9269a54395f.jpg

I wish Hornby would go back to liveries like this for the 0-4-0s instead of the ugly 'industrial' liveries they seem to apply to them these days. Fortunately it seems they've attempted to have a go at real liveries again this year.

Anyways, here's another pug I've seen on eBay that caught my eye. Not very realistic but neither are massive D couplers and I like it1394456124_R2150_3141251_Qty1_1(1).jpg.f28653fff436f3164faada103f5be609.jpg

Some pictures of the 0-6-0 standard, would probably be quite free rolling if half the crankpins hadn't been lost to the carpet20210211_203837.jpg.21fe15d2633a20be4edf7e59b8b5a190.jpg20210211_203844.jpg.c29b143f07467aa64f144496cebd4ab3.jpg20210211_203905.jpg.abbd29ca348b9e0318d9dc8721c60741.jpg

I did something similar using an old Jinty chassis. Glued the valve gear solid, filed down the old Triang flanges with a large file (3 strokes all round!) and polished with a wet 'n' dry sanding sponge, used the kit pony, sprayed with Paint-ball "MUD" colour and covered the motor with firebox extensions. Not a new idea by any means but just about the easiest/cheapest way to get an Airfix Mogul running. :locomotive:

Restoration on the free pug is going well. I've got rid if the lumps on the tank and the cylinder covers, filled in holes in dome, 20210301_205805.jpg.10ef87b56c8768185667ca9c9f7ab0a2.jpg20210301_205814.jpg.eee583cd1e12c1bcb70fb0027399f397.jpg but there's still a lot more to do. Funnel is blue tacked on, needs new smokebox door, bufferbeam needs filing down and 3 links fitted plus vac pipes, also need to file down the bar between the dumb buffers, plus repaint. It's a very good runner

Currently restoring this Hornby 92. 3 links I had lying around, pipes made from broken headphones. The motors gonna go me £37 but It'll be worth it. Needs buffers and 3rd rail shoes (missing) and snowplows (from Lima model) Would it be worth buying some humbrol metalcote to do the buffers? And should I paint the pantographs?20210304_215950(0).jpg.cafa19138c9a63c0133dd02ec5d01fbf.jpg20210304_231000.jpg.310b3f18a12f4f1796ae9686a5827492.jpg

£37! Go online @New Modellers Shop. Whole 92 motor assembly under £20 or replacement armature under a fiver. Ebay-Peters spares 92 buffers £3.99, Shoebeams set, £1.90. Class 92 uses a screw link coupling. Metalcote is tricky stuff, Humbrol 85 better IMHO. :locomotive:

Yeah, I'm getting pretty much everything from Peter's Spares. Are 3 links different than screw links? If so then I have used screw links on the 92. The less important jobs are painting the underframe (it's a vile glossy unpainted plastic) and maybe slapping an EWS logo/square on it instead of the RfD? I've not been able to find any pictures of Elgar with the EWS yellow square but no doubt it had it before being repainted into eye bleeding DB red

There are 3 links, Instanter and screw links. The latter screw up tight to close the gap between buffer heads. Go on FLICKR online, look at Richie B photostream. Type "The Starlight Express?" Great colour photo of Elgar 92009 with EWS yellow square.

Knew about screw links but I'm assuming 3 links is just a chain with 3 links hence the name? Thanks

Locomotives would have screw couplings, as would coaches (if not fitted with buckeyes). Three links and Instanters would only be fitted to wagons.

I do wish there was a detail pack or something with the combined hook and buckeye, I think I saw a whitemetal one when someone here was making a 325 but of course I wouldn't be getting that
