Should be getting one of the Railroad 47s in a week or two, GBRf 47739 to be exact. The next project I want to do is a HST barrier coach. I don't want a full HST rake but I would like a powercar on my layout atleast. I know the barrier coaches are made from Mk1s but whuch ones? It won't be a hard job converting it, with my budget I'll just put filler over the windows, grt rid of the gangways and make sure everything's smooth. Remove the buffers off one end, add a fake buckeye and bam. From what I've seen most of them are done up in a dark blue

A quick google search has shown that quite a lot of barrier vehicles are MK1 full brakes with tge windows plated over, but I have seen other diagrams used.

I reckon you could get away with almost any MK1 vehicle as long as you plate over the windows. An old Hornby/triang model would be a good starting point as they're dirt cheap.

Both Mk.1 and Mk.2 brake coaches were often used externally unaltered apart from 'barrier' lettering. Depending on period there may be no need to plate over the windows.

Mk.1 BSK

Mk.2 BFK

Hi Bernard,

This sheet of transfers is for the Mk1 shewn above:

I'm mostly looking to model a current barrier coach but I don't think there's any use making one without a HST! I have got 1 hatchette mk1 that isn't in pieces but if course that one's staying put. In all honesty I cannot wait for wickes to open back up so I can finally start my layout, I don't care how long it takes to do all the scenics, the main priority is getting the track on the board. The plan's to buy all new track, I've got the track plan vaguely in my head, 2 loops, a yard, a shed or two plus some sidings and a tunnel to cover one end of the layout, personally I think that with a roundy round layout, if you have one of the ends of the layout hidden it some form, usually a tunnel and a nice big hill, it looks slightly more realistic (if you can call an oval realistic) since when you look at the layout, you won't see an oval, more of a U shape, and combine that with all the scenics, hills, bridges, station, sheds ect. amd there you go

Have you seen a YouTube channel "OOBill" . He has a very nice layout much as you suggest in a relatively small space . Might give you some ideas .  The guy is a wizz at repairing locos . Even though I've had a model railway for 50 odd years I'm learning lots from it . Very informative and Interesting . Another really good channel is by "That Model Railway Guy" who I think is also a member on here .

I've also watched 00Bill...

Cannot recommend enough, he does a nice little series on EBay non-runners which is a great source for cheap loco's

Yeah I've seen his videos, great channel

No offense but I'm not going to spend loads on a printer just for some paper boxes

Hi Tubs. If you’re still looking to have some container wagons I mocked up a cheap option here. Scrap coach chassis (any will do) with very cheap Lima containers ( others are available from toys etc if you scout around for them). You could detail them more but all in that little ensemble was about a fiver.  Six for the price of a brand new one.

Yes I love that model of the training vehicle: I see you have it too! It looks good in my depot environment. They do a civil engineering version too but I figured the electrical one was more suited. I paid over 30 quid for nine so it must have taken a good chunk out of your budget!

Update on the free pug restoration plus some detailing with kitmaster parts on my LMS pug. The free pug still needs loads of work as I'm sure you can see. I prefer using parts from kitmaster kits for steam era bufferbeam detail is it tends to be sturdier20210325_154530.jpg.965cb62d08af9f0d3564b5deaefa9db4.jpg20210325_154553.jpg.efdf30d1ec95a14a8eb3d70e6190bf71.jpg20210310_214507.jpg.d5cff5dfefc847aae0741bf7832f57d1.jpg

and a bonus: here's a picture of the 'restored' free B12. It's good enough for now but I'd love to come back to it at some point. This picture also reminds me of how eager I am to start my layout! I would've started much earlier but since there's no where to get a baseboard at the moment I'll just have to wait. I would like to make a little diorama for me to take pictures of my locos with though. 20210313_215524.jpg.7374b0c038d2c9af1c81dfeaa33a09f6.jpg

Your black pug looks very realistic in it's rough state! Dull the rods down with a brown wash and chuck more fine, coal dust around it with some dry-brushed white around the safety valves/cylinders (priming) and call it done!

still needs a smokebox door; about 11mm so the plan is to get an N scale door and change it where necessary.  Thanks

Working on making the jinty more unique. Removed numberplate, did up the bufferbeam and I've removed the decals since the plan is to do it up red, crest on the tanks and an etched numberplate plate on the bunker. Heavily inspired by this old Hornby20210328_020324.jpg.051fea6d466cd9c2d36bc081cfeb9cd1.jpg1436851737_1993_r073(1).jpg.279145534e588674f5fe66f7016c81df.jpg pannier from 1993 I think. Though I suppose it'll look more like the budgie railway engine!

Just bought a Lima skip for 65 quid on eBay. Maybe slightly over budget.. but oh well!IMG_-r9ka53.jpg.c93c961edd85c5977ece1fc6813f6c80.jpgHas all the detail parts unopened which I'm sure will be a pain to put on

I'm just glad I've finally got some more modern locos, and now I have an excuse for a 92 to be doing the rounds on my layout- being dragged by a 67! I know the 67s weren't really made for freight, but I'd still like to bash some some modern image style open wagons, inspired by the MHAs, though of course I'll try and get some lima RES parcel vans for it to pull, I'm quite a fan of parcel and mail trains, so the 67s perfect for me
