Odd Pairing For The Waterloo Train?

That comment reply section is a cracking read!

Just when you think you must have seen nearly every interesting photo from around Exeter back then this one turns up!

Somewhere online is a photo of a 25/33 pairing at Lapford heading to Barnstaple but for the life of me I can’t find it anywhere now.

I found that one a while back and kept a note! It's in the Derby Sulzers website, about ½ way down this page.

Clayton West 1982 by Awalker1

"This classic 16.5 tonner (Merchant Coal Open, or MCO) was used to supply coal for the signalbox at Clayton West Junction. "

Clayton West mineral wagon, 1982

MCO actually translates as -

M - for Mineral wagon, flat bottomed. (prior to TOPS they were classified MIN 16T(

C - designating its size (16 tons in this case) in the group of letters allocated to flat bottom mineral wagons, e.g  C=16T, D=21T. E =25T

O - for brake type (O meaning no automatic brake or through pipe of any kind)

Although they were probably, for a while, the most prolific type of wagon conveying coal to coal merchants at small stations

Inspiration for your modern era depots

Aylesbury

Can you post that on the "When the real thing looks like a model" thread as well?

As in, the weathering on the nearest DMU looks terrible, and those Peco(?) accessories should have been painted.

Is this the Top Gear Team at work on another "Railway Special" at another top-secret location?

Riccarton Junction

https://www.google.com/maps/place/55°16'17.4"N+2°43'36.1"W/@55.2709047,-2.7272291,500m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m4!3m3!8m2!3d55.2715!4d-2.7267?hl=en&entry=ttu

Or is it the new budget rail service from Riccarton Junction to link-up with the still-open station at Tweedbank?

(Caravans-by-rail)

South End of Riccarton Junction

Now if BR had wanted to electrify that line, how would it be done? Would the trolleybus service have to be truncated?

Look how neat and tidy everything is. No litter, graffiti, road signs/markings and no general street clutter. Lovely.

No, there are several places in the world where tramway electrification and railway electrification to a different system cross, and I think trolleybus ones too. It can be done by switching, or “dead frogs”, or a combination.

This picture has got me wondering, when was the RTC livery introduced and when was the last rolling stock wearing it repainted or scrapped?

I guess very early 1970s for the original livery, with it being phased out when 97201 and 97406 were withdrawn around 1987 maybe?

After that the RTC 31s - the fire destroyed 97203 and it’s replacement (97204) wore the newer version of the Technical Centre livery, along with their associated rolling stock I believe?
