RMweb Gold ruggedpeak Posted July 11, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 11, 2021 The Seaton Tramway is mostly in open countryside...... Back on topic, to be fair to Hornby supply chains and supplies are all over the place at the moment. In the property world the amount of construction materials and parts we can't get is significant and entire projects are on hold due to not getting key materials. This ranges from steelwork to site hoardings to tiny machinery components and mastic. Suppliers' warehouses are getting empty. Our IT dept can't get hold of laptops, PC screens etc as there is a global shortage. So hardly suprising if Hornby aren't 100% sure where they are up to. How long before model trains are affected by the shortage of chips and electronic components?

Its probably happening now. You'd think that something like a Railroad "Deltic" would fall into the "laughably easy to produce" part of Hornbys output, but R30048TTS, and its sister loco R30049TTS were expected around now, and are currently "Expected Winter 2022"*. Unless it was on the "Ever Given" and the pushback on the date is just to cover uncertainty for when the ship would be released from the Suez Canal, its possible that they can't get the chips for the TTS decoder. Just checked the "Coming Soon" page, R30048/9TTS aren't listed at all up to May 2022, so either Hornby are up to their usual tricks, or... * Which I'm assuming means Jan/Feb 2022, and not 16 months hence! Sooner than you think for microprocessors. And then it'll take up to 5 years to get back on track (no pun intended). DCC users - stock up on decoders!
