A waiting game…

A diverted dmu service heads towards Lime Street on the down goods whilst D1733 waits for the road off the diesel shed whilst E3095 and E3104 await the off from the electric loco stabling point

Having had that muck around yesterday I’ve got quite excited at the thought of the ac loco stabling point dropping down at the back of the layout (it was going to be off scene to the left) so much so I’m thinking of adding it to the layout making it a kind of L shape and two layouts in one, the electric stabling point could be easily used stand alone as a small micro or diorama

Not much work over the weekend due to route learning but now all my routes are signed off I can hopefully get back to the odd hour or two a couple of nights in the week.  I have acquired Edge Hill’s first shunters and an unexpected eBay bargain has led to another AL5 on route to 8N, I recon one or two more AL6’s then that’ll be it for ac locos.  I have managed an hour weathering the 20 today though and once the transfers arrive I can crack on with both 47’s.

Cheers

Some more photos of the cl20, I’m wanting a really grubby filthy look to this, I still need to weather the buffers and add grease then add oil stains etc to the body, but I think it’s so far so good up to now.

Cheers

Having a little muck about…

D1801 and D8015 both wait outside the fuelling shed having recently been serviced, D8015 then makes its way under the raised lines before passing back under and heading for the exit road.  After climbing the incline out of the shed area the EE type 1 makes it’s way across the junction and joins the down goods.

One of the reasons I had the board out today was to see some possibilities of locations for the electric loco stabling point, I have three possibly four locations.  Please see the rather rushed and crude plan below two options would mean extending the board widthways, with ‘A’ I’d have to change the viewing side.

Finishing work early isn’t always a good thing, when I got home I decided to take a look at board number two to see how things might look etc so a laid a few bits of flexi down etc and to me it’s just looking far to crowded and I think it’s going to look to compacted if I have the service roads as a through shed.  I’ve kind of got modellers block at the moment, do I sacrifice one of the inclines, do I need two, or do I have the far one for accessing the depot and the nearest one to access, slightly raised but lower than the good, holding sidings…

Paul, I don't know that I can help re the actual layout.

But, taking today's post, and your previous one, which referred to alternate

viewing side. I suggest that perhaps you should first ask yourself, what is the

view that inspired this? Therefore, what view do I (you) want to present?

Hence what "tweeks" can be made to balance the set up, with regard to that

viewpoint.?

I suspect that your progress so far, may have taken you away from the inspiration

that you started with, and it may help to take your viewpoint a few steps back.

If that doesn't make any sense, I won't be offended if you say so. At the end of the

day it's a version of rule 1, it needs to satisfy you first and foremost.

All the best with your deliberations.

Thanks Tony I totally get what your saying, to be honest I could have the layout viewed from both sides but one makes things easier  if your get me.  I’m 90% there with how I want it but I’m just stuck at the moment with the final pieces of the jigsaw do you speak, it looks good in my head but how it looks in the flesh well who knows.

Thanks again

Hi Tony I’ve been thinking about what your were saying about what did I want to see, what inspired me.  One thing I always found fascinating as a kid was wondering what was the other side of a depot such as Crewe, what was out of site I found it so intriguing.  I guess that’s what I want to capture in my layiut I want people to guess what’s beyond something, locos to disappear out of sight then reappear as if to tease the viewer if that makes sense.  I’m actually starting to figure it out now so thanks again buddy.

D1801 is finally finished, the photos don’t really do the light weathering justice but I’m pretty pleased with it, D1805 is complete to, I’ll post a short video shortly and I’ve made a start weathering the latest AL5

Finally got around to playing trains on Edge Hill today, although it was with real trains on the real Edge Hill, unfortunately there’s no sign of the original depot anymore but the carriage sidings I was on haven’t changed much, these where opposite the location I’m modelling.

Modelling progress has been a little slow of late due to work etc but I have been acquiring some stock for the breakdown crane, obviously they will need repainting etc, I have got a three wheeled milk tanker and another coach arriving soon which I might use instead of the blue one.  Also the blue 47 is finished apart from the headcodes, I’m still not entirely happy with my efforts
