RMweb Premium GWRPhil Posted February 12, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 12, 2022 (edited) I couldn’t find a feed that showed photos of track works in progress. What triggered this thought was the track replacement currently being done in Plymouth between laira junction and Tavistock junction. throughout rmweb there’s feeds for locos and wagons but not for them in track work situations. Thought it would be cool to have one. So here it is. I’ll upload some pictures I took today to start things going. Steadfast
Interesting to see them on site, thanks for posting @GWRPhil. I got rid of 70811, 66846 and 70805 from Westbury. No doubt I'll be seeing them again tomorrow. Jo

RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted February 13, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 13, 2022 An interesting one here as the possession was right up to the end of the platform so two units not required on service due to the works were used as extra safety barriers with trains terminating from the west behind them. 5
RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted February 13, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 13, 2022 So trains from the west could be 'called on' to the occupied platform? What a good idea!

What a good idea! They were getting a bit ‘het up’ about risk and one of the possession planning guys asked me if we could put locos in as a barrier so we suggested the 158’s as the Romsey’s couldn’t run. We just sent out a note to the head of GWR route and to the two SWR depots affected that they’d be there and they would get the calling on and had no issues at all. It still gave capacity for a 6 car in 3 and a 9 car in 4 with a coach length safety by using the 158’s so tons of room. Enforced caution into the platform with the calling on as well as a physical barrier. 4 1

So no loco hire charges, depot happy, safety covered and normal signalling too Edited February 13, 2022 by PaulRhB 2

Rivercider
I have posted these before several years ago on the 'Changing Face of Bristol' thread. The High Level sidings at Bristol Temple Meads were relayed in June/July 1979 with second hand track sections recovered from the relief lines at Slough if I recall correctly. Here are three instamatic photos, the second one is taken from the Bristol TOPS office window. In the final view 31422 is taking the scrap track sections away to Bristol East Depot. Crane 353 (DRP81353) 19/6/79 From the TOPS office window 23/6/79. Train for East Depot behind 31422, 17/7/79. Ironically the sidings were never used for their intended purpose of stabling the new HSTs introduced on the Cross Country route, even though electric shore supply had been fitted. The reason being that the power cars would have been standing outside the Bristol Panel Box window, the diesel fumes caused complaints, and as far as I know only one set, (fresh out of Derby Works) ever stood there. The three sidings were subsequently used to stable parcels vans as they had been before. cheers Edited February 13, 2022 by Rivercider Clarification.

The other end has one of the g&w orange livery locos “Joseph’s wish” only visible from main road where no where to stop for photos.
RMweb Gold phil_sutters Posted May 19, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 19, 2023 (edited) An assortment of photos from my files - a few more can be found in my RMweb album. Please note that the logos used in some of the earlier snaps do not indicate official photos. It was just me trying to dress up my images. I've grown out of that now!
