RMweb Gold Popular Post roundhouse Posted September 30, 2022 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted September 30, 2022 (edited) Its with great sadness and shock that a fellow Rmwebber and a long time friend Andrew Cocker passed away yesterday. He probably posted in Early Risers more than other topics but was a keen North American modeller and heavily into DCC so he could be found posting in those topics. He was also a very keen craft beer drinker and it was the combination of the beer and DCC that we met Andrew and his wife Liz, in the Rake in Borough Market, London whilst I was sitting nearby with a friend talking about DCC when Andrew overheard us and we got chatting. Since then we had often met up for beers and he also attended quite a few shows giving us a hand and also was involved for a while with Freemo meets. Andrew was born in Calgary visiting his brother in the Uk a few times. He then moved to the UK with his wife in 2003. It was only the weekend just gone that we were sitting with Andrew and Liz in a beer festival in Holland so it was great shock to hear the news this morning when I received a message from his brother who lives in NW USA but currently over here on vacation and was due to see Andrew in a weeks time. I have spoken to Liz and she asked if I could let people who knew Andrew even if only online, know. RIP Andrew (photo of Andrew on the right standing next to his Canadian module at the Freemo South meet in 2018.) RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted September 30, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 30, 2022 OMG! Never met him, but he was one of the younger generation of RMwebbers who spoke his mind eloquently and was clearly quite some modeller to boot. I am really sad at this. 1
RMweb Premium New Haven Neil Posted September 30, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 30, 2022 Absolutely gutted, I chatted elsewhere with him a bit, and always enjoyed his 'company'. His family must be devastated. Our deepest and heartfelt condolences.
Erichill16
Can’t believe this sad news, I only had an on line chat with him earlier this week regarding our respective trips to Holland. Condolences to family and friends. Robert

RMweb Premium Barry O Posted October 2, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 2, 2022 Very sad to hear this. Andrew C will be missed, in particular for his ways of bringing some wonderful descriptive words into the RMWeb world. Thoughts are with Liz and his family. laurenceb
This is a complete shock. Always enjoyed Andrew's pithy remarks. A big hole has appeared in the ranks of ER'S Condolences to Andrew's family & friends
RMweb Premium St Enodoc Posted October 4, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 4, 2022 Andrew and I corresponded regularly a few years ago through the old model rail newsgroup. Although we'd been out of touch for a while, I'll miss his insightful comments on the world of model railways and on life in general.
Moderators AY Mod Posted October 5, 2022 Moderators Share Posted October 5, 2022 Apologies; I've only just found this. That's a shock; although I never (knowingly) met him we did exchange some contact and he struck me as remarkably thoughtful. RIP. 3

I ran it past his wife Liz and she told me a humorous thing that Andrew used to say to people although I don't recall him telling me as it was some years later that we met them. When he came back to live in the UK, Liz came a few days later departing Calgary on Halloween. Andrew would tell friends that she flew over on her broomstick. Thats the sort of great humour that he was renowned for. Edited October 5, 2022 by roundhouse 9
RMweb Premium jamie92208 Posted October 13, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 13, 2022 I met Andrew once at a meeting of ER's in London a couple of years ago. As Ian has said, a shock andhevwill be sadly missed, particulsrly for all the colourful new words that he invented to describe peopke that he came across.
