Can you advise if the traders, bring buy stand and catering will be cash only or both? No problem if they are cash, I will just need to check I've been to the bank in the lead up.

@john new and others, I have a card reader for card payments, but folding payment accepted!

Oooh... Doable by train from Reading (and walkable from Taunton station) plus the diary is empty on that day. Will be there!

That sounded like a good idea, until I tried to look it up. Engineering works between Basingstoke and Reading mean no trains from Basingstoke in any direction (and no, I can't see the logic there either...). Also no trains at all on the Reading-Newbury-Westbury line either!

This weekends layout is Rod Cameron's slice of Gallic charm, St.Martin-sur-Orb, a 1950s/60s set morsel of the ex-Midi SNCF.

Rod descibes it thus

"The layout was inspired by a disused ex-Midi secondary line in SW France encountered during holidays there. I knew virtually nothing about French railways so it’s been quite a learning process.

The layout is set in the Hérault department of Occitanie in southern France, and was inspired by the trackbed (now a cycle route) and surviving buildings near to where friends have a farmhouse and gîte. The ex-Midi secondary line, running west from Bédarieux, was never electrified - but my version is (or will be ...).

Overhead catenary and mechanical signals feature. Stock is mostly Roco, Piko and REE, buildings mostly kits by Architecture & Passion"

I know he is still carrying out a lot of work on the layout. Return-Of-Pink-Panther-Quotes-Nice.jpg.d03bb045cc2768905db7c5e5c370ecc0.jpg

But it's coming together very well indeed.

Rod has included the ogive catenary supports, which were characteristic of the Midi.

I think you'll agree, that Rod's labours to capture the atmosphere of France's Southern regions are proving to be very successful indeed !

Morning all,

The spot light this week end falls on Stu Hilton ( Stubby47) and The Hollow.

Stu is another long time supporter of SWAG and will be well known to many on here. He's also a bespoke model building service. Have a look at the following links to his Instagram page.

He's quite a clever sort and can turn his hand to most things but amongst other talents,  he has this ability to knock stuff into shape to produce rather nice buildings. The Hollow showcases this as well as an interesting take or two on model railway control.

If you are looking for a bespoke building or perhaps someone to build a baseboard or a full blown layout, have a chat. He'll be happy to discuss things with you.

My advice is to approach him with a large piece of chocolate cake............ that should open the batting.

Morning all,

An update this morning to the layouts,

Sadly, Bethesda Sidings will not now  be appearing at SWAG.

Tim is somewhat under the weather at present and obviously, whilst not his first choice, it is without doubt that it's for the best that he remains at Kernow Towers.

To reassure everyone, he is receiving attention from the fitters to establish the cause of his poor steaming.

I'm sure all concerned join me in wishing him a most speedy of recoveries.

Rob.

Best wishes from Spam Towers  to CK
