Help please in identifying 3mm scale etched kits

Recommended Posts

I recently bought a lot on a bit of a hunch, well my guess on the main things were correct and my thoughts about these two kits were correct

This is to my mind one of a scratch builders aid series

Clearly a GWR (Flying Banana ) diesel rail car. My first thoughts were these may have come from Worsley Works, they have a series of 4mm scale kits but not 3mm ones

This second set of etches state its a J25 on the instruction sheet, but no makers name on it

There is no chassis or boiler, but some castings were included which may be for the loco but will be missing the odd one

The more I loo at these they remind me of Jedinco, but are they ?

Please can anyone assist me with any details so I can find a good home for them, as I am not interested in TT gauge or are they 3MM scale ?. I do fancy soldering up the Railcar though

The J25 looks similar to the old Geo Norton kit . The Tender chassis is/looks identical . What is the Cab side height ? the J25 are quite small locos.

I have a Falcon Brass 4mm J24 to build, and that looks tiny on the etched sheet as well.

The height of the cab sides are 20mm

Some snaps of the MTK DRC. Sorry about the quality, but note the resemblance.

I think you have nailed it, whilst it has no roof I doubt if anyone else would design the cab front in the same way and I know MTK did a few 3mm items. Thanks

Thank you very much, its given me an idea and I wonder if I am either missing an etch sheet or it is designed to fit a commercial chassis ?

26mm on my 4mm version. I presume yours is TT .

Yes they are and I did say in the title and 1st post, trouble is as the thread grows things get distorted

When bidding the railcar was next to a ruler which showed its length at about 20cm, in 4mm it would have been nearer 300mm, the trouble is when there is nothing to show its scale in most photos

Thanks again, RMweb usually comes up trumps

The main thing is to find a good home for it, especially when its a niche scale interest. I also have 9 pairs of etched W irons and a whitemetal cattle wagon.  The lot was described as a model railway scrap yard, a few other bits as well

The best thing I got from the lot were 3 brass 12mm gauge roller gauges as I have 2 Isle of Man loco kits to build, next up a pair of 12mm gauge cast bogies, then a Romford Bulldog motor for an old GEM LNWR loco.

A second lot from another seller gave me a GER E22 (LNER J65) body kit, this looks like a Jedinco kit
